You can tell that you enjoy and respect the engine(s) you work on. Very professional and first class workmanship. The wife's cousin thinks he's a mechanic but he's always covered in thick dirty oil and never without a lump hammer in his hand. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos.

Some people edit this stuff out, they talk too much and use short clips, I just sat and watched this craftsman perform magic, love seeing someone who knows what they doing making it look so simple, anyone who builds engines will understand.

Nice, a guy who understands you don't get sloppy with sealant on subarus. With their ASE cert'd techs at the dealership repairing FA20s knew that, instead, most engines fail after their TSB work that removes the heads because sealant ends up blocking a water or oil port.

@bob_345-g3d
@bob_345-g3d 6 жыл бұрын
@Floodle Doozie there's building a motor that makes 800hp, and then there is building a motor to make that day after day after day. Very different things. A bone stock motor is not going to handle actual race duty. I dont care who the motor comes from. being WOT and making power for 20+ minuets at a time requires allot more time and effort than adding boost and fuel to a stock motor. Might be ok for 1/4 mile stuff but no way it would be reliable on a rally stage.

You should look into vapour blasting, we use it at my work place. It makes old engines look brand new. You have to block every hole off and do some serious cleaning afterwards to make sure the glass doesn't get inside the engine but the result is well worth it. I feel like you should meet my boss haha, he builds engines like this, one of the best in my country.

Wills Rings (UK) are used extensively on purpose-built race engines in place of a head gasket. They are hollow and typically filled with a material in a gaseous state.

I changed the passenger side valve cover gasket about 9 times and it still leaks, the cover is new with new screws. No cracks, everything normal, if I don't accelerate it doesn't leak anything. The problem is when I accelerate it starts to leak barely always from the weakest point which would be at the angle where the RTV is placed. The PCV valve is ok, and tubes ok. I wonder if the problem is that a lot of gases are generated in the valve cover but that would be very rare...

Im guessing that the black material you spread on the head bolts is an 'anti-sieze" compound. Which do you prefer? the Silver, copper or Moly based compounds? In most aerospace applications its the Copper anti sieze. It doesnt seem to break down or oxidize as easily as the others.

Marking bolts AFTER torquing doesn't guarantee none was overlooked. That would never pass inspection at Caterpillar, where I was an assembler for 46 years. We put a sponge in the torquing socket and put yellow paint on the sponge. Every bolt was marked as it was torqued. Engineering later decided to put a mark halfway across each bolt and a matching mark on the housing it went through. If any bolt's marks were still in line, bolt wasn't torqued.

Really great tutorial videos (both Pt 1 & 2). The nice addition might be to caption the screen with some torque specs and measurements. To go even further, the parts could be referenced to catalogue or supply codes. And the materials, lubes and similar could be mentioned as well. Nonetheless, very good and interesting video.
