@Jeffemano Showing signs of use and letting your tools sit in grime and muck are two very different things. If you knew anything about good mechanics, you'd know that the good ones are OCD about their tools. Why? because you take care of what makes you money.

Note the clean shop? No distractions. This man makes good example: It is the engine builders' responsibility to check clearances and proper machining, taper, out of round surface prep, fillet radii.., ring end gaps.. finally...not the machine shop or the parts manufacturers. In other words, you don't just assemble the parts hoping it all works. 90% of the time it may work but if it fails you can't hassle the crankshaft company or machine shop. If they send you out of round crank catch it BEFORE you assemble. No substitute for a good tech school but experience comes from life. Everyone wants to build engines too! This is the work I was trained for, that I should have been doing and love. Godspeed.

CLEAN AND ORGANIZED!

Whether you're a mechanic with only mechanic training, a hobbyist/enthusiast, or general untrained person with appreciation for engines and vehicles... Somehow you know and feel all the science that goes into something as complicated as a combustion engine and the whole vehicle, from frame to the carpet your feet rest on. It's truly beautiful.

I know you are filming but I don't know how can you do all of that work in silence, no music or nothing. Solid build. TIL that you have to install piston wrist pin that way on Subaru's, I was so confused when you torque the 2 halves of the block together together and the pistons where missing. The only thing I could disagree with this build is using assembly lube on piston rings, but other than that, hats off to you for having so clean of a workplace.

Few questions: • When you reamed the mains, did you leave the surface as it was after reaming? Did you deburr the edges? • Aren't you afraid of introducing hairline cracks at the front of the crank, when you torque the conrod bolts, while the crank is only supported at one end? • Aren't you afraid of a plain cloth's fibers getting in some oil passage, and blocking it? • Did you deburr the piston rings, after grinding them to the appropriate size?

Es ist eine Freude, bei dieser Arbeit zuzusehen. Ich würde mir wünschen, normale Kfz-Werkstätten würden so sorgfältig arbeiten. Such tight tolerances. Makes a great engine. Chrysler (biased opinion) made engine holes are egg shaped. Low tolerance. High production. Will last through warranty, probably. I have two sons that are machinists. Quality takes time and that costs money. Subaru's go forever. Quality is not a compromise. Love my 2014 Forester xt. No problems. Sleeper kind of power. Stock. But not for long! I started writing at the start of this vid. This guy is a subaru surgeon. I want him for my mechanic! I'm hoping that Subaru doesn't drop its standards for profit. Fast, safe, useful, dependable,. Love my SUBI!!! Twin turbo is next gen, I think.

Never seen main bearing bores reamed like that before although I've yet to have a Subaru (plenty of VW, Alfa-Romeo, even Citroene flat fours) One thing, dropping bolts into holes in alloy crankcases can cause thread to 'roll' and give a false torque reading on final assembly. (I used to do a lot of Japanese motorcycle engines)
@maneki9neko
@maneki9neko 5 жыл бұрын
His technique is very, very good. That is said I agree with you about the dropped bolts. It is easy to peen and roll under the leading edge of the first thread on the block. The only other item I might change is the application of case sealant. Spreading the bead with small plastic or wooden spatula will help prevent the sealant from extruding out of the join to the side.

Wow, learned alot here. But why are you using a torque wrench on the connecting rods bolts. Then measuring rod stretch? If you know the rod has to stretch 1.5mm then turn it 540 degrees. Or whatever the pitch is.

That thing(crank) bent like hell when you were torquing the conrods, are you sure you got the same readings on top and bottom ? :) i'd clamp it from both ends or something.

@@walterbrooks3539 I'm not sure they make case studs might not be enough clearance to the nut to have enough material so bolts would make sense. I did think that when I saw it but then thought of that. But now I'm gonn have to look into it I've got 2 ej22t blocks I'll be doing soon

Could you get the same kind of performance from their h6 design?? I hear the 6cyl are infinitely more stable in terms of primary and secondary forces canceling out so sticking 800 ponies through it seems theoretically more wise

Very ingenious assembly methods, like inserting the pistons & pins in AFTER block assembly. But floating gudgeon (wrist) pins with circlips, that surprises me. And I didn't see any lube on the big end bearings, I guess that's to maximise oil flow thru the galleries on pre start-up turnover? And I really like the use of those interlocking mats under the assembly, makes life easy & safe. On to Pt 2.
