Great companion video to the bmwtuning article. I'm just getting going on my N55 build, VRSF intercooler is in, but if you're going to be increasing boost in any way via these mods, I'd highly recommend changing out all the plastic parts around the turbo (charge pipe, boost pipe, and inlet pipe). I've read the horror stories of how they like to go boom when adding the slightest tune.

I have a 2011 E92 335i With the N55. Currently FBO besides a CAI. If you want to maximize gains and compete against an N54, i would highly suggest looking into a custom tune to truly wake up your N55. The XHP transmission tune would definitely help as well.

Great video and good to see the n55 get love. I have a 2018 LCI M2 6spd manual. Currently have 520whp on 93 and with e50 blend make 620whp. I have pure 750 turbo, FBO( vrsf fmic, catless downpipe, charge pipe, boost pipe, M performance exhaust, stage 2 hpfp and lpfp, Turner motor sport carbon intake, m2c carbon and aluminum strut braces with m2cs steering tune, m2c seats, m mirrors, m performance shifter and steering wheel, GTS hood, m2cs carbon front lip, aftermarket carbon rear diffuser and side skirts, PSM carbon fiber high kick spoiler, carbon fiber eye lids and m2 fender badges. Next will be wheels and suspension. This car is a dream and sounds amazing. Not maintenance issues because I stay on top of oil changes, brake fluid, and any seals or gaskets, I also have the mossleman thermostat up grade. This car will be a keeper. Perfect street and twisties machine with some good high way pull performance. I don’t and never wanted this to be a drag car I could easily get a b58 xdrive car and do that , but where’s the fun in that. Plus the n55b is a little more stout with forged components and an other unique only to the m2 bits.

CFS large intercooler honestly I prefer a better quality intercooler but at the same size, stock intake with a rectangular hole cut out like the performance intake, downpipe tune engine and transmission,3.5 bar map sensor the icing on the cake large 3" Pro tuning freaks charge pipe.

I have a question, so as I said my first turbo car. I checked the boost level with Carly it stays around 14 psi at normal speed but if i floor it , it hits 21 psi and tappers down to around 15 is this normal ? I don’t know if the previous owner tuned it but I do know I get a “bank 1 catalytic converter message “ every 100 miles or so , I just reset it until I can check the down-pipe/catalytic converter factory I think . The car does not run bad with the code .

Most N55s won't get anywhere close to 400WHP with bolt ons unfortunately. BM3 and MHD both claim approximately 420bhp on their stage 2+ maps, and since these cars have a 20% drivetrain loss that's 340-350whp max from the OTS tunes. To get close to 400whp you'd need an EWG N55 with full bolt ons, and a proper custom tune running E30. Even then I think you'd be capping out at 380whp, limiting factor for us is the fuel pump (which is a very expensive upgrade), followed shortly by the turbo (which is another very expensive upgrade).
@8020Media6 ай бұрын
A 20% drivetrain loss is a very aggressive assumption; I'd say 10-12% is much more realistic. Nonetheless, there are plenty who have reached ~380-400whp on the PWG and ~400-425whp on the EWG. They're definitely higher-end numbers and not everyone is going to see that. But that's a whole other topic with dynos and power numbers. It's tough to compare different dynos, on different days, different builds, etc.

I have some questions in reference to modifying my F30 1). What is the risk of doing these modifications at 140k miles versus say 40k miles. Prior to my ownership the cars been maintained at the dealer and I’ve been keeping up with the maintenance with no issues aside from a distinct tick on cold starts I haven’t fully diagnosed. 2). What would be the next viable turbo option after completing these mods without going to a crazy huge top mount kit and would it require additional fueling or could you run a slightly larger turbo on stock injectors pumps etc
@8020Media8 ай бұрын
The risk should be relatively similar at high mileage if the N55 engine is in good condition. Of course, the engine is going to have a little more natural wear and tear so it could expose certain issues faster (like rod bearing wear, for example). Something like the Pure500 or Pure Stage 2 turbo are good options if you're looking for a "modest" turbo upgrade. Fueling upgrades would depend on many factors like power goals, fuel (pump gas vs E85), water-methanol injection, etc. However, it's likely you'll need at least some fueling upgrades unless you're going for a conservative setup on pump gas.
@dylanpage41068 ай бұрын
@@8020Media Thank you very much, I understand. I’ll be looking into the differences between those turbos and how others have set them up in terms of fueling. I greatly appreciate your reply I’ve been enjoying my N55 and I think I want to pursue pulling more power out of it rather than switching to a b58 powered car just yet.

this title is really misleading. an MHD tune license for n55 is 550$, a good intercooler is 500$, good chargepipe is 250-300$, a catless downpipe which won't pass emissions and causes car to stink is 300$, a high flow cat is anywhere from 500$ to 2000$ depending on brand. a good cold air intake is 250-500$ i would say to do it right and not get the cheapest crap parts, the low end it's much closer to 2500$ and that's not including labor if you want someone else to install these parts.
