Great question! Concrete cures through a chemical process called hydration. The amount of water that evaporates off happens over the course of many years and typically never exceeds .05lbs over the course of that time period. Making these weights a long term solution. Hope this helps!

you are not supposed to drop them on concrete like a chimp. Put them down with control or drop them on double rubber mat. Of course the cement will crumble over time even if you are careful but here is the kicker.... you can re-do this for grand total of 25 dollars per dumbbell. Now compare that with price of steel dumbbells. I would personally make my own from cheapest mild steel I would find but hey some people do not have access to power tools and welder and lets be frank, some people shouldn't even go near to those things :D

@@MassiveHappyClapper so 5 years of use out of a maybe 30-40 dollar investment? I’d say that’s honestly really impressive. The concrete weights really are a low cost, non permanent solution to a problem. If the weights last 5 years that’s more than enough time to save up some money for legit weights and still be able to workout in the mean time, we can’t expect more of things when they’re just not going to be what we want them to be. I’d also suggest the sand bags that are sold online for big compound lifts. Those are also a cheap alternative that is a bit more durable!

@TheDJOblivion
@TheDJOblivion Жыл бұрын
Concrete does not harden by evaporation, it hardens or forms by a chemical process called hydration. The water added to concrete mix becomes a part of the concrete and never leaves concrete or evaporates. Concrete has mainly 3 ingredients- cement, aggregates and water. Water reacts with the ingredients in cement (65% lime), known as the hydration process, and the aggregates do not take part in chemical reaction. That’s why it’s so important to add exactly the right quantity of water for the specific type of concrete application. The majic number for concrete is 28 days. During that time concrete gains 80-90% of its full strength. Another fact about concrete is, it never stops setting; 5, 10 years after pouring, it’s still settling.

I would slide a piece of rebar down the center so when that plastic dry rots you can still use the weight.

Crazy But I would stuff some lightweight and sturdy items in there to fill it up properly. I have some plastic weights, and after a while, the filling starts to crumble and roll around inside.

I used the similar ones, and it's really just doing fine for 5 years.. inexpensive but good enough for home workout tools..

I thought about doing this like many but not with the plastic casing, I would be concerned over time the shell oxidizing and becoming brittle but as cheap as this is who cares as long as it didn’t cause injury.

I’ve got one eighty pound dumbbell, he is my oldest son, the other is closer to 35#. But the brilliance is its a progressive weight training,so long as I keep feeding them.
