Every honest experienced skater will tell you 80mm inline skate wheels are way better than 90mm.
80mm inline skate wheels are better than 90mm because they are cheaper, safer, give you a better workout and let you turn faster.
80mm inline skates aren't just for beginners, use 80mm inline skates to target your VMO muscles, glutes, thighs and hamstrings better than the 90mm wheels.
80mm inline skates are a wonderful addition to every serious inline skate collection.

Very² true indeed. I am skating on two different skate, K2 Uptown 80mm and PS Swell 100mm. There is a large difference. Long distance (20km+) I will skate using the 100mm skate. If skating in skatepark or indoor, I will go for my 80mm skate.

Enjoyed your take on this. I personally have a contrasting opinion to yours. I think that 80 mm wheels are the most overrated and offer the least utility. They are also typically set up on very short frames which for most people is unstable and doesn't allow them to really learn and execute proper technique to skate longer, faster and smoother. Regardless, keep up the great content.

Same here. I skated in my teens. I’m in my 40s now and started skating a few weeks ago. I just learned how to skate backwards today. I forgot how fun roller skating was until my kids asked me to go roller skating with them. I like 80mm as it’s very comfortable to control for beginners. For competitive skating, bigger wheels will make a difference, but for beginners and fitness purpose, 80mm is good enough for me.

How are you gonna say that 80mm wheels are just as fast but you get a better workout on them? I will also disagree with 80's being safer for the same reason they require different muscles - the frame length of 4x80 is quite short and requires the skater to compensate with more stabilization effort. 4x90mm frames offer a longer wheelbase which in most cases is safer due to the enhanced stability. Lastly, have you ever tried a rockered frame? You might appreciate the agility and your opinion of larger wheels might change

Cheers for the video! I'm new and about to get my first skates to cruise around my city Adelaide, Australia - It is a mix of smooth surfaces and bumpier surfaces (light ashphalt and paving) with some long stretches and many short stretches with corners. I have a decade experience in urban unicycling and some pennyboarding. I hear 80mm is good for beginners. My primary goal is to cruise and coast (not workout) long stretches but when needed, also to be able to turn corners, stop/start suddenly, and glide over paving. Which wheel diameter and firmness would you suggest?

For your very first pair you can't go wrong with 80mm 82a, they are the best all around to learn on. Starting on 4x100mm 82a is the easiest, most comfortable most forgiving way to go. And they are still fun to skate years and years later, I still use mine. They aren't as fast as my other ones but I think you get the point. They're plenty fast for beginners, and I can still cruise up to 17kph in 80mm 4x100mm without too much work. If you love inline skating, once you're super comfortable on your skates get a second pair to go fast on. 3x100mm or 4x100mm depending on where you're skating, 85a hardness is what I like (for going fast). I've had some good wipe outs at speed on those tho so keep that in mind! Have never fallen on my 80mm 4x100. Hope that helps! Happy skating friend!

Nice video, Dude! You make some nice points here. I’m still very much at home on a flat 4x80; it’s agile, quick, playful, you get a better workout, and it’s 100% the best place to start for beginners. It took me a while to do it, but I have now gravitated to a rockered 4x90, and there are a few things I like about having that slightly larger wheel. I do personally feel the ride is a bit smoother, especially over the rough stuff I tend to roll on. They carry a little extra speed for longer, which is great when I’m cruising a city, but the biggest benefit for me, and it’s an obvious one, is that they last longer. The issue with my 80s is that they don’t stay 80s for very long. Having that extra 10mm just means I don’t need to think about swapping them out quite as often.

@@TheLastHonestInfluencer After extensive research, I've decided to try the Powerslide Trinity X Mount skates, which are said to offer a 7mm lateral adjustment. Proskaterplace in Toronto is currently offering some great deals-I'm getting mine at a 50% discount. I've chosen the Powerslide Next 80 model (4x80) for my purchase. One of the Trinity system's key benefits is that it allows your feet to be positioned closer to the ground compared to other frame systems, especially with 80mm wheels. This feature is particularly advantageous, although I have several K2 100mm skates, I've struggled with maneuvers as a beginner after 10 months of casual use. Additionally, from my experience as a former NCAA runner now dealing with knee issues, it's important to understand that knee pronation can be somewhat beneficial. It acts as a shock absorber, reducing peak force on the articular cartilage, especially the medial surface. By limiting pronation, you may increase the forces exerted on the articular surfaces, potentially accelerating degenerative changes or causing acute damage. Thus, a degree of knee pronation might be the lesser of two evils.

All you've said is true for your specific use case and physique. However, I firmly disagree for reasons others have already brought up, plus you're discounting individual height and foot size. There's a good reason some brands make 4x90 for larger foot sizes or 4x76 for smaller. 4x80 is generally only 243mm wheelbase. It's dangerous for a bigger person who is beginning to use a frame setup so much smaller than their feet. And if you're into semi-aggressive urban skating that little extra length provides noticable additional stability when jumping and landing. All these reasons are why wizard skaters use 5x80 and up to 4x110 for very aggressive tricks requiring a high degree of foot control and balance. Check it out. It's a different kind of rigorous workout compared to distance skating and kinder to your body than aggressive skating.

@@PotatoTroll that’s a brilliant suggestion, thank you! Personally I only skate for fitness and training. Hard boots cause blister’s because your feet get sweaty and hot when you skate for a long time in them. Soft boots are much cool and more comfortable. Fila skates are fairly low quality so they probably leave a lot to be desired. K2 and rollerblade both make inexpensive soft boot skates. The extra rigidity and support a hard boot gives is only necessary if you’re jumping around and doing tricks imo.

@@TheLastHonestInfluencer you are a legend thank you! I did already get the Aeons just have not had the ability to start back at it yet. As soon as these ribs are healed I'll get out there 🙏👍

I tried a few pairs of 90mm. Thought the first one might be the skates. Nope.

They’re probably trying to get rid of the 90mm wheels because no one buys them

I've checked various website and I don't really see this price difference between 90s and 80s. 100s costs a little bit more than 90s that costs a little bit more than 80s. And to me, for urban skating on rough pavements, 90s gives you that little more inertia that make you pass far easily the roughest points than 80s. 90s are the worst for 165mm mounting because they make you way higher from the ground, comparing to 80s or 100s. But that price difference is the thing I don't really see. Conversely, you can buy slightly used 90s (from kids or beginner speed skaters) for cheap, while you have to buy new 80s because nobody is selling them almost new

Interesting! What websites are you looking at? In-line skate warehouse is usually where I buy mine. At the end of the day it’s personal preference. Some people love 90’s. I hate them! If you want to skate them power to you!

@@TheLastHonestInfluencer I'm from europe, so maybe I see different prices. I checked skatepro, bladeville, bimar skates, thisissoul. Price of the same wheel is usually growing with the size, 90s are a little bit pricier than 80s and a little bit less than 100s. I skate 80s-90s-100s and like all of them for different reasons

euro seems to have way better prices and options for inline skates. The most important thing is inline skating is awesome and it's great to meet another in-liner. thanks for your comments and happy skating brother! @@federicomori420

No wheels is optimal, just dip your frames in rubber first they will last longer. Best leg burn you'll ever feel
