Nothing screams "country" more than the racetrack of ole Yonkers, NY, a literal stones throw away from the concrete jungle of "da Bronx." In all fairness though, I suppose for some city dwellers a trip to southern Westchester is akin to heading up to green acres.

As Garger Jarger said, it was wonderful in the 80s but around the mid 90s it started to become full of hoodlums & if I remember correctly, it stopped in 2002 or 2003. The last time I went to the fair was the year before its final year & that year alone there were 3 stabbings. Low class people from the slums of the bronx came up to Westchester & ruined our simple family friendly good time.

@@dr.spectre9697 It was the '91 WCF that began the decline, as gang violence became a nightly display. The sound system on the Himalaya. The intoxicating aroma of zeppole. Dunking that arrogant clown in the tank and nearly throwing your arm out in the process. Standing those longneck Coke bottles up with the crooked fishing rod. The pirate ship that typically smelled like vomit at the back. The Gravitron 😐. The Fun House, where people did, in fact, break limbs (I recall a broken leg on the log roll section). The pig races. The pony rides, as short as they were (the rides, that is 😋). And the carneys - some drunk, some not - allowing little Johnny and Sally on the "big boy/girl" rides, despite failing to meet the height requirements. A bygone era to be certain.
