Wow! That's a gold mind of video games! When I grew up we had the Atari 2600, a lot of the Atari labeled games were popular, but we invested into the Activision games more over, the boxes were more attractive. I'm also originally from Michigan. Oscoda to be exact. In our neighborhood, we all knew somebody who had each of the systems. A friend had Coleco Vision, another had the Intellivision, another had the Commodore 64 computer and games, then they improved into the Vic 20. As for favorites, River Raid was one of my favorites, I actually sent in a Polaroid photo for a contest, competing for highest scores. I remember the letter I got back and a patch you could sew onto whatever? I would mow lawns to buy my own video games back then, & shovel snow too. In our neighborhood. I've played the games from Atari made games, Haunted House was my favorite of those series of games, paddles a toss between Warlords, Breakout or Super Breakout? Golf for the Intellivision, Burger Time for Coleco Vision. Commodore 64 Donkey Kong? The Vic 20, I don't remember? Yes, when E.T. came out for the 2600 it did suck as a game. Many of those old games for Atari, I owned or have played. Also, as an adult with a job at the time I had bought my own Nintendo game system. Fun fact, here in New Mexico, the vintage E.T. video games were dug up along with other video games and are on display at a museum in Alamogordo, NM. When Nintendo came out I was already playing many of those games you showed and owned many. Here in Albuquerque I did know a friend who owned the Sega Genesis but not that other Sega system you mentioned?

I had a cousin who had an Atari, but the first game system I had was the NES. I had all the systems at the time as they came out and once I was able to upgrade, including portables(Gameboy, Sega Game Gear). When it comes to NES, my favorite was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game(that was my number one cartoon growing up and I saw all the original movies back in the 90's). I went to Target one day and found a DVD on clearance that tells the origin story of the original TMNT franchise, going from graphic adult comic, to what it became a kid friendly cartoon and movie franchise and bought it as a keepsake. My favorite Mario is Mario 3 cause of it's quality and smoothness in terms of look and gameplay. I liked the challenge of Paperboy and Duck Hunt too I also had the 16 bit Sega in the early 90's, my two favorites on there were Pit Fighter and the original Mortal Kombat, Sega was the first time I ever played the football game Madden when I played Madden "94. When I first played the Sega Game Gear at the time what always stood out to me was how vibrent the color was, especially when I played the original Mortal Kombat on it. When it comes to this generation of consoles and gaming I prefer the playstation, I have been playing that console since the PS1 came out in the mid 90's and currently have a PS4, looking to get a PS5 as soon as I can. I did pick up Playstation's version of the original Sonic game as a keep sake when it came out, it's exactly like the Sega version in the 90's, just on Playstation. Yeah, I watched a Netflix doc that covered that story of the ET game, and it being buried in the dessert. I never played the ET game, but I did see the movie.

My brother got the Sears Telecade II in 1982 or 1983 and we had E.T. I remember him winning it, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was 3 or 4, but I remember having a lot of fun with it. Then I finally saved up money by 1989 and got the NES with the Power Pad set! I don't think I ever passed a math class after that with anything higher than a C. Good times!

VIC-20 was a full computer system that competed against the other 8 bit systems. It didn’t have much memory, but most game software came on cartridges which made that less of a concern. Some came on tape, but that was more rare. I do have a copy of a word processor on tape somewhere though. For its time if had pretty good video and sound (the VIC in the name is because of this video chip). It also came with a basic interpreter built in so on power up you always had that if you didn’t have a cart loaded. Warning! The power supplies get screwy as they get older and are notorious for over voltage. Make sure you either get it tested or get a filter before powering up. The cassette drive worked on the VIC as well as the C64 and the C128. The used a DIN plug to connect to a port on the rear. They were better than the Coco’s as they were dedicated so you didn’t need to mess with the volume constantly. It also has a counter as you would record where you stopped recording your program and then note the start and stop positions on the cassette case insert for later. There was a VIC branded disk drive but the didn’t become as popular till the C64 and its greater RAM. The joystick port was the “standard” 9 pin port that the Atari and many other 8 bit machines shared. They idea was commonality would be better for sales. There are also a few versions of the joystick with the self-centering being the more sought after. I had the Gorf book as a kid. If is a programming instruction game to teach you basic if memory serves. It and Compute helped teach me basic. Growing up outside Philadelphia we had a lot of Commodore stuff as MOS technology was down the road in West Chester. I had PETs, VIC-20s, C64s in school and among my friends. Many happy memories of typing in programs or playing games like Star Wars or Wheel of Fortune.

Master system had a game called Golden Axe Warrior that was pretty good. Atari my favorite game was Tapper he drinks Mountain Dew in the game. The NES I would have to say my favorite game was Contra. The Nes had lots of great sports games like Ice Hockey one of my favorite games to play with my son. The Sports game you were talking about was Dusty Diamond Softball an excellent game with many different characters to choose from. Commodore vic 20 was the computer system that had a commercial with William Shatner or better known as Captain Kirk. The best game from that system was Choplifter a game where you rescue pow's with your helicopter but you have to watch out for tanks. It had Atari 2600 like graphics.

The condition of the boxes will drive their value...most of the games are common. You may want to invest in some box protectors before shipping them. The VIC20 will work like the consoles. Atari’s Kaboom was awesome, it was my favorite Activision game. In fact most all the Activision games were great, in fact, they even started giving credit to the designers that wrote the games (even on the box later on) and I think it was around the time of Activision that they figured out how to bank-switch the memory which broke the (I think) 4K game limitation. Those games had incredible graphics for the day and played very well. Some of the licensed games were just awful, but it’s not surprising that they rushed them out to the market to cash in on the name. The boxes are in exception shape and the games probably all work since they’ve been kept in them.

Commodore VIC-20 was a.dumber version of the Commodore 64. The controller pin ports are the same (DB-9) so they're interchangeable with the Atari 2600 ones

@@SargeRedsVintageToys VIC-20 was the earlier system. It had less ram than a C64, but most of the games for it where cartridges so it didn’t matter as much. They were pretty much the step between the Pet and a C64. I would caution you against powering it on as the power adapters are know to be flaky and can blow the system. You should be able to get a power filter to prevent that. They used to be pretty cheap on eBay and Amazon. The 8 Bit guy did a great video about them if you want to learn more. I grew up with Commodores (they were actually headquartered down the road from where I grew up) so I’m a bit of a fanboy.

Do you have any tips/suggestions/advice on how to find vintage toys? I know it is very unlikely I will come across a collection like you did in the 80's toy house, but there has to be toys in my area that people would be willing to sell. What are your strategies for hunting these toys down? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated! I really enjoy your videos too!!

No... ET was NOT as bad as they said it was. I got it for Christmas the year it came out to and loved it. I believe I was 6 years old. Of course it's hard to play now, but it was never THAT bad. Is your boxed copy for sale yet? Interested if so...

Exactly! I had alot of good memories with that game as a kid. When I was able to "beat" it the first time I thought it was quite the accomplishment. I had a great time figuring it out. It definitely does not deserve the "worst game of all time" title. I'm interested in it when you get it up for sale. Would love to display it!
