@PurpleBlackOut I grew up in the 1980s. America was an unquestionable superpower, and had economic prosperity. Foreign countries did not mess with America because it did not play nice. You could respect America without offending anyone (pledge of allegiance). Children were encouraged to play outside. The 1980s was a great era. I miss them!

I must have watched it here like 10 times
@MysticalChicken13 жыл бұрын
Man, I always thought I watched a lot of TV as a kid, but I only remember a few of these, and mostly just for the product, not the commercial itself. I remember Giggle cookies (I think my mom bought a box or two when I was young), Transformers obviously, Pogo Bal (I could never get the hang of those things), and Dino-Riders, only because my little brother had a Dino-Riders VHS when he was like 6 years old. Oh, and Candilicious--I do remember the commercial for that one, albeit vaguely.
@babygiraffe12316 жыл бұрын
To this day, I STILL laugh my ass off at that Army Ants commercial. And, every one of my friends had a Groove Tube at one point or another. It was one of the hottest toy crazes when I was about 5 or 6.
@tomp200811 жыл бұрын
some of these were still airing in the 90s
@80sCommercialVault16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the general timeframe would be from around '87-'88. All of these commercials are from random tapes of "The Real Ghostbusters" I recorded as a video crazed toddler, so the exact period of these are indeterminate.

The cartoon footage on that first 976-number ad looks like it was taken from the 1937 Max Fleisher version of Gulliver's Travels. Speaking of 976 numbers, I tried calling one exactly once. It was called "Laugh Line" or something similar. Was totally stupid, and had to explain to my parents why there was a $5 charge on their phone bill the following month.

I'm thinking the people who made the Candilicious ad also did the one for Watchamacallit candy bar. Also, I don't recall the "doing the arch" ever catching on. The Baskin-Robbins helmets were beyond awesome. If they planned of having people buy lots of sundaes, then they succeeded. Finally, no, the Pogo Blaster never jumped higher than four or five inches off the ground.

To answer the question asked by "80s Commercial Vault", the point of "Groove Tube" was exercise - back in the day when we didn't have to think about it. You just hung outside with your friends and played!
