80series - Cold Starting a 1FZ-FE and how it should sound

gotta love the old 80 series. yeah the engine will be in high idle while it warms up, and the fan will cut off once it gets going.

Fella, it is amazing how many pople thing that motor revs to high when cold. Nominally it should be between around 1600-1850ish RPM on dead cold start

@@OldMatesBackyardTech thats actually pretty high for a cold idle at least for most vehicles. but, larger vehicles need a little more idle. Toyotas none theless ~1500-1900 is common when cold.

Mine won't do high idle anymore, I have replaced coolant sensor, TPS, IAC, still no effect. I have obd1 Bluetooth device and I able to see how engine working, and I noticed that ECU decrease steps of Idle valve right after first start till 70-60 step that will be 1000-850RPM till it's get warm 650RPM and 20step

Yes they do have a whistle I own a 93 1fzfe 80 petrol and I had it for over 17 years some times the whistle sound can be a ordinator when changing the battery they can make a whistle or a squeal and that can sound like a turbo whistle thanks and go the 80s 👍🏻

Hi again mr tech I’m having a problem with my passenger back window when I wine down the window the roller bearing Falls of the c Chanel track witch then casing the window to free fall can this be fixed or do i need to buy a new one thanks again and go the 80s 👍🏻

You would have to pull it apart and have a sticky beak. Some can be, other times it is less of a fck around to replace it

Ive had mine since 98. no need to remove the fan to change belts, just feed them round the fan....simple Use toyota belts (smooth type) and there is no noise. Aftermarket ribbed type belts make noise on these Change all at the same time as you have to remove the AC belt to access the ALT ones belt tension is crucial and the idler pulley bearing can make noise but a very easy fix to re grease or change the bearing Normal cold start idle is around 1100-1300rpm for a few seconds then should calm down slowly and settle to 650-700rpm. if your idle is higher then look for vacuum leaks or clean the ISC Valve the fan is a viscous clutch fan, not a thermo.

Is using fully sentetic oil recommended on 1FZ-FE updated version?( 1998 onwards).

You sure your clutch fan is not stuck on the clutch fan should engage when engine gets hot not when it’s cold

they cold idle sometimes at like 1500 rpm lol
