TRUE STORY: In 1986, I was an extra on La Bamba. We were shooting the concert scene at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in LA where Ritchie performs La Bamba for the first time. The director instructs everyone to start rushing the stage and dance when the cameras roll. After he yells: "cut", I approach him and confidentially tell him that I saw several people dancing The Twist and he says: "so?". I then proceed to tell him that The Twist wasn't invented until several years after Ritchie passed away. He quickly got on his bullhorn and told everyone to "Not Dance The Twist!".

one blooper that made it into the script was that ritchie had no rhythm and his recordings had to be spliced in from several takes. i just took a listen to his pacoima performance of la bamba. it's a little slower than the studio recording, but the rhythm and tempo are consistent. can't believe 90% of what those biopics tell us.

The movie came out 28 years after Richie had passed away. It's been 34 years since the movie was released, more time has passed from the release of the movie until now to keep in perspective.
