Wow, I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to find all these locations, especially the small alleys behind the homes up in the hills. I remember in those days these gang movies were often shot in, or near, the real hoods where things went down. To see neighborhoods filmed within the Hollenbeck division just sends me back. I remember a friend taking me to El Tepeyac in the early 90s late at night. Your channel is a true gem.

I know! I think this movie was never marketed well bc of its low budget. Most of its fame is from word of mouth, but its not enough to make it commercially viable for a blu ray release. I think its only chance to be released on bluray, is if the criterion collection deems it sufficiently important to cinema history or culturally relevant. The criterion collection has rescued a lot of indie films that would have never gotten a blu ray otherwise. They just made a 4k Blu-ray release of menace II society. Which is also another low budget film , but menace ii society did have its bluray before the criterion collection picked it. For now, the closest thing we have is a 4k upscale version of the film that someone uploaded to youtube. You should check it out

This movie is the gift that keeps giving. Awesome video. Last weekend at a street fair, my homie introduced me to a coworker of his. As we made our way away from him, I said "he's tres puntos ese." And my friend, on cue, came right back "hey, that's street BS ese."

my friends mother did one of the murals in the movies...thank you for the amount of time and effort and inside...it is an important movie for the latin community...it is a real part of American history...just for those curious you hardly going to find any cholo or gangster looking in Mexico...perhaps near the border...but the only gangsters are the cartels and they don't dress like this...I live in Mexico City now, not latino, nor Mexican...and trust me it is a lot safer on this side of the border than in major US cities...! It is also amazing to point out that really not much has changed physically...perhaps a couple streets or buildings...but in general a city doesn't drastically change...lack of funds I would say !
