License to drive has always been one of my favorites People who haven’t seen it probably think it’s a lame 2 Coreys movie but it’s actually a really funny 80s comedy adventure. “Les! It’s me Papa!” 😃😂😅

What is a lame 2 Corey movie? I'm pretty sure that don't exist.

@@dirtyglovekennels616 Think he means that people not familiar with the film may think of it as just another lame film starring the 2 Corey's (Haim and Feldman) that were so popular in the late 80's.

I actually went to Walter Reed Middle School back in'97. And I remember when they were filming Good Burger just a few blocks away from the school. A few friends and I passed by the film location when walking home. I also used to live close to the Baxter st hill in the early 90s. Off Lakeshore dr. We used to take the 2 freeway often and pass by that street. Back to Walter Reed, they used to film the outside of the school often and I believe the show 7th Heaven used it as the outside of the school. Love this flick myself as well. By the way, nice Thrilla Shirt!

Great 80s flick. Saw this with friends in Westwood in ye olden days. This is the kind of film that really matters to you at that age, not the big blockbusters. Thank you so much for posting this!! This was one of many movies my brother and I were obsessed with in the late 80's/early 90's. Me, because I thought the Corey's were cute. And him, because he loved the "action scenes." We watched it over and over and over. (He was 6 and I was a preteen, so cut us some slack! Lol.) At any rate, I randomly found it on TV tonight and decided to watch it for nostalgia sake. I hadn't seen a scene of this movie in over 30 years! Imagine my complete and utter surprise during the reverse car driving scene, because I knew instantly where the location was!! I quickly jumped on the internet and your video confirmed it for me. The building where I work today is on that street! I pass all of those buildings everyday. Yes, I live in Los Angeles now, so something like this is bound to happen, but this completely blows my mind and now I will think of this movie everyday when I go to work. LOL! And, I can't wait to tell my brother!

Ah yes. The late 80s. When you could go to the video shop and there's always be a new movie to watch. The first time I saw License to Drive was when a kid from school had a sleep birthday. We watched Police Academy 3 which was on TV. And then the host whipped out License to Drive on VHS. I'd not heard of it before. But it was typical of 80s teen comedies - It was great in every way.

Most of this was filmed on Meridian and Highland Street. I grew up on Highland Street in South Pas (same street they filmed the "hey jerk, speed kills" scene in Halloween 1978) and watched them film virtually the entire dream/flashback sequence. I was about 11 at the time and remember it like yesterday. Some fun facts: - what he said about the stoplight was obviously true. It was held in place by a crane but what they also did was spray paint a solid white line on the street at that location, similar to a crosswalk or what you'd see at a stop sign. There was never a stop sign on Meridian but after filming wrapped, people would stop at that white line for YEARS before they'd realize that they didn't have to and continue driving northbound on Meridian towards Oliver (where the bus hard U-turn was filmed). -The first shot of the bus driving up the hill, I remember my friends and I at the time thought they were filming Nightmare on Elm Street 3, due to the opening scene in Part 2 being similar. -I remember "watching" them film the shots of the interior of the bus with Corey and the file, but you couldn't see anything. I remember wondering exactly what they were filming in there and didn't find out until the movie came out. - when they filmed the U-turn of the bus, that was shot in multiple takes. They did it 3-4 times and on one of the takes, they actually flipped the bus on the side and it had to be craned back into an upright position. I can't remember for certain but I seem to remember that the guy that actually played the bus driver/school teacher was the actual guy that did the driving stunt with the bus. I may be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure. They were concerned he was hurt when the bus flipped but he was fine. - I vaguely remember them filming the jumping out the back of the bus scene. I believe the same stunt man that drove the Ferrari did that scene and I think that was done over two days. I remember when they filmed Corey, he started his position laying on his back in the middle of the street. Director yelled "action" and he got up and started running towards the Ferrari. The director was coaching him the whole time. "Ok, run to the car....now slide....annnnnnddd....look at girl, look at bus....back at girl....smile.....aaaannnnddddd cut". I remember all of that specifically. - The film crew was super cool and I remember talking to one of the crew members about how they filmed the Ben Tramer vs police car scene in Halloween II, which was filmed further down the street on Meridian, towards Mission where the original Halloween house currently sits. - I thought that Ferrari was the coolest thing at the time and I remember a girl relaxing in the front seat between takes, very friendly and saying "hi" every time I'd walk by to check the car out. Of course, that girl was Heather Graham who no one knew at the time. - Down on Buena Vista (by the rock wall), they had the Ferrari trailered on a flat bed and Corey Haim was in the driver's seat with Heather Graham in the passenger's seat between takes. He was smoking a cigarette and tapping the ashes on the top of the door sill as they waited to shoot. I went up to him and said "hi" and told him I liked Lucas. He smiled and said "thanks". He seemed to be having a lot of fun and was nice. -The big house from Lawnmower Man is a block away on Meridian and Buena Vista and I watched them film a lot of that movie, too. Friends of mine used to live in that house. Directly across that street, it was rumored that Madonna's brother owned or once owned that house, which at one time was owned by former President Garfield and it used to be connected to the house across from it on the southwest corner of Meridian and Buena Vista. Again, that was the rumor. This whole area in the film was an awesome place to grow up.

Love this movie and I greatly appreciate you doing this even better than before! Was the truck explosion also a location from the other side for They Live? I think you're right about the park. That tree looks exactly the same. :) Merriest Christmas to you and everyone!

Good stuff Kurt 👍 .... Before it turned into a used car dealership on Saticoy & Calvin it was a "Gasco" gas stiation ...... Would go there as a kid with 50¢ and fill an old, traditional red & yellow, metal 1 gal. can ... To mow several neighbors lawn for some extra duckets $

My all time favorite Corey Haim movie! I didn’t get to see it in the theaters but when it came out on VHS 2 days before Christmas 88 my brother rented it so I could watch it. The following summer (89) I bought my own copy which I still have to this day! I never get tired of watching this movie! I made my mom watch it sometime in the 90s and she liked it. She couldnt stop laughing at the drunk guy when he said “What airline is this?!” 😂😂

That's the DMV I first got my driver license at! Now you can do almost everything online, but back then, if you showed up after 0630, the line would be at least a block long, and regularly much longer.

Absolutely amazing how those houses have gone virtually unchanged in more than 35 years good video and one of my favorite 80's movies. I know you tend to only do locations of movies in California but one of my all-time 80's movies is "The Wraith" Filmed on location in Arizona i would love to see one of you location videos from the wraith.

The only thing I dislike about this movie is the "urban" music during the black driving instructor scene. There's nothing "black" or hip hop or whatever about that scene at all aside from a black actor. His character didn't fit the music.
