Jerry won't have any problem in Dumaguete. Lot's of expats there. Americans actually established a university there - Silliman University. He might decide on attending some classes there and participate on some "non-heated" discussion. LOL. The best is to remain neutral. Being 81 years old, he has the experience to share to younger folks.
@Trucker4010 ай бұрын
I’d argue at that age you have less to lose. Your mother and father have already passed. Your children are likely adults. The cost of living in PH is cheaper so your pension will go further. Plus, if you’re a single man from the US, even if you’re old, it’s easy to get a woman.
@manuelmoraleda968410 ай бұрын
@InvestorRetiredat40 Easy ? I agree. What's not easy is looking for someone with the 2 elements - 1. A good one. 2. The correct one for you. Let the mind dictates after a good research. The heart is a very poor judge of character.
@manuelmoraleda968410 ай бұрын
@InvestorRetiredat40 I think Silliman University, the university founded by American missionaries in the Philippines, can establish classes to enhance or facilitate better adjustment of ex-pats there.

I love it here in Philippines. Happy to retire here. This place is so much less stress for me and low cost of living. Took me awhile to understand here age does not matter but it’s true. Filipinos are simple loving people. Food and happiness is important to them. I’ve learned living here is a state of mind. Just relax and enjoy life. There is always something to do here and places to go. Have a good common sense of safety and build a good base of trusted friends. Watch out for people that will only take from you. I really like this variety. I do love watching Philippines travel videos because it's like going and getting to see and enjoy beautiful places alone by yourself though not actually, and also not by yourself (something for the eyes). But same with traveling. whether reality or virtual reality, one should not stay in paradise always, and I'm sure anyone is going to be more than willing to get out at least once in a while because anywhere, even paradise, can and will get boring. And people's stories is one of the things that anyone can enjoy just sitting down and listening to, wherever they may be as long as they'll have the time for it (something for the ears).

As a Filipina Nurse living in New York for 33 years , I think what makes Philippines a great place to live for the expats is the connection that you can have with the people. Anywhere you go in the Philippines there are strangers who are willing to connect with you in any way, be they are the ladies who sell fish in the market or the security guard in the bank or the trike driver that Jerry speaks of. They will smile at you, say “good morning, sir”. It’s the connection that’s sadly missing here in the States. And even better, after that initial meeting, they’re your friends for life. I’m so proud of my people and the home of my heart. We might not be a land with abundant wealth and power, but the Filipino people are a priceless treasure. And Jerry, a tip, you can find good, older Filipina women with great character, education and breeding , the so called matandang dalaga, bachelorettes who’ve never been married in their 30’s or 40’s (who look like they’re in their 20’s )who will take care of you and cherish you as you deserve. Good Luck!

Exactly, even the Filipina women in their 30'a, 40's or even in their 50's, still actually look even 10 or 20 years younger, than their actual age, and that's completely amazing!... Probably, because of less stress!....🇵🇭

I really love this story. --- I'm 73 & been considering it for more than a year also ! --- Difference is I'm not going to Dumaguete - or - looking for a Filipina. Adventure cost of living and friendly people appeals to me. Expat company will also be nice from all over the world. --- My sentiments are shared exactly with what Jerry describes about moving there !!! (w/o the women)

Moving to Dumaguete is like remaining in the States; so many freakin Expats it don't make any sense.

@@CatNMrDJ Not like the States with the prices (yet anyway) it's still cheaper. Valencia is nice & Bacong ?

@@frankkluz9787 my point is it is full of Americans, may as well remain in the States if you want to hang around Americans. Now, my Filipina wife is from Iligan City; so few Americans, you can count them on one hand. In fact, whenever we visit, I believe I'm the only American there. Now, if it were me, I'd live with the Natives and enjoy all that has to offer. Anyways, I'm happy that he at least took a leap of faith at being happy...

@@CatNMrDJ great point. I didn’t leave America to come to America. But some people feel better in an area overseas with other expats and close to a big hospital

@@Federico-ht7ks I hear you, Federico. I’d require a good hospital also.

You deserve to be happy after all the hardwork in life. You are a very healthy & cool man. I believe you will find a Filipina whom you will be happy with. All it takes is discernment to get the right one. Find one so that you will be guided by her with all the places to travel and with the cultures here in the Philippines. God bless you. 🙏♥️🇵🇭
I like this guy :) Gives a very positive outlook for what 80+ can be 👍
