I had two different utilities companies come out to inspect my dig site. I am almost positive they said I was good to dig but I noticed they spray painted some stuff on the ground. It looks like some lettering. Would they spray my dog site if I was cleared to dig. It was a cable company and gas and power.

I’m fortunate to live in a condo and my HOA does all the landscaping (for a monthly fee) and my mailbox is an apartment style mailbox inside the condo building itself. However, my parents owns a single family home with a small front yard, so I’ll let them know (even though the most “digs” they do is planting flowers).

Shawn, let's say you are digging a 50 foot trench 18 inches deep, will the locators use their scanning tools on the proposed dig site where the white paint is to see what's there or are they just out there to mark the obvious utilities going to gas meters and water pipes, etc. going into the house?

they will only mark on public ground ie roads, right of ways, and to major junctions like fire hydrants. In my experience, they will not mark on your private property. which kinda sucks. they will only mark what they have on their charts. they only use indicators if they cannot easily locate where their utility is

I've got a water tower and a gas house where I need to work. Will they locate it if it's in the backyard?

They will not mark anything past the meter. If the water is metered at the road and at the top of the water tower, they will not mark it. They will not mark anything past the meter regarding the gasline. If the gas comes through your backyard to the meter; and then inside, then they will.

Hey there, I was considering excavating a site nearby on my property, and I'm curious if I would need to tell 811 whether my land is sloped. Also when I tell them the depth I am digging, should I say the highest point (which would have the largest depth) or from the lowest point? This would be similar to a L shape that has depth into the ground. Btw your video was very helpful and I'm thankful for that.

They don't need to know if it's sloped. They need to know the deepest part of your excavation, so yes the highest part. Doesn't have to be exact, just close. Ask Questions also they are very helpful. Thanks for the reply!

@@Postman2007 then there is nothing there. Most times you will se an OK in whatever color paint to represent they were there but there are no lines present

They didnt Call cuz i delted and rebooted my device!!! I am not stupid!!! However they left their mark in front of the building where I'm at last night in the slower car two dudes and they left their Mark in front of this building where I'm at I'm telling you and it wasn't just a cup of water or anything I called the security guard here and told him there was something poured out of this car that is the MARK!!!! THEY HAVE MY ADDRESS GOING TO 5251 MAHONING ROAD IN AUSTINTOWN OHIO UNBELIEVABLE AND ALSO ON THE BOX AND SAYS I PURCHASED MY PHONE ON JUNE 28TH WHEN I NEVER DID I BOUGHT THIS PHONE ON THE FIRST OF JULY!!!!
