But looking for a small dump truck, I have a car trailer, box blade, want a root rake, and scraper, but I have co-workers wanting trenches dug, I got a backhoe with tractor, I have them asking for bush hogging, and fixing driveways. All I had planned to do was fix my driveways at both of my homes, and help 84 year old uncle clear his overgrown place up. He has done a lot for me all his life. Now he isnt doing well.

You have to break up the original bed, and the potholes, so when new material is added, it all packs together. In Minnesota its called Class Five Gravel. Sand, stone and clay. Tailgate it out, drive on in and after a couple of rains, it's hard as blacktop. My box blade ($700) has paid for it's self many times over. Thanks for the video. Russ. The old philosopher strikes again! Besides being an excellent contractor, you are an excellent teacher, explains the business in simple-to-understand language and a lot of common sense. You are so correct when you talk about making a profit with a pickup, a couple of bags of gravel, a shovel, and most of all - a positive can-do attitude, which you have in abundance. Best of all you emphasize the point that success doesn’t come instantly. You have start at the beginning and work your way up the business ladder, and before you can land the big jobs you have to land the small jobs. Sounds simplistic, but you’d be surprised how many people ignore this sound advice and end up cutting their own fiscal throats. Want to be a success? Then listen to this man. He’s offering you FREE advice, probably the only time in your business life you’ll get something substantial for free. Listen and learn. A small investment in time can pay big dividends.

One thing Ive always wanted from a young age, is to be my own boss. I figured excavation would be a good way to go about that. I just turned 20 about 2 weeks ago, I’ve been a construction laborer for going on 2 years now making $32 an hour. I’m not the happiest with what I do for a living, seemingly how I went to welding school. I got into the laborers union because it pays more than what a welder with 3 years experience in my area. Anyway, this video has gave me a tremendous amount of confidence in being able to be my own boss. One question I’ve got is, when I first start out. Should I pull the trigger on getting an LLC, and insurance and things like that if I’m just starting out doing driveways, or small simple things like that? Retaining walls, small things of that nature? Or should I wait until things grow a little bit?

G'day mate, First video I've watched of yours and you simplified the question of 'where to start' perfectly! My father has a compact skid steer with a trailer I can use to get started and I was thinking about radio advertising or cold calling big companies in the local area to find work but you saying, just go for a drive and look around, took all that stress away. I'll be watching more of your videos for how to go about pricing which is something else I'm stressing about. Thanks for making this video and God bless you
