That is a great looking vehicle but the range seems like it would be best suited around town. Your average speed is 50mph and the cold weather consumption is very high. A vehicle like that looks like it would be great for road trips here in the USA but the speed limits across this country range from 70mph to 85mph (112kph to 136kph) and most folks drive about 5 over the speed limit. These speeds along with cold temperatures would really kill the range and our infrastructure here still has a bunch of work to do before we have reliable charging stations across this country every 100 miles or so (160 kilometers).
@0hypnotoad0 Жыл бұрын
I drove coast to coast to coast across Canada in the USA and back again in a Kona Electric in 12 days, it's definitely doable. Biggest hurdle on the trip was charger reliability* not availability. There's plenty of chargers, problem is some of them suck and can't be fully depended on. That said, I still covered an average of 1300 km (800 miles) per day over the course of the road trip, which is a driving distance that the vast majority of gas and diesel drivers would shudder to do in one day, let alone repeat multiple days.

I don't understand why car makers don't incorporate a better GPU in their vehicles. Zooming and scrolling these maps is like on an iPhone 4. I know there's a chip shortage, but this happened before that as well. Why are they presenting an ancient interface experience to their valued customers?
@shmadmanuts Жыл бұрын
indeed, a 30E more expensive chip, translating in 100E more when buying the car, giving proper user experience, for a 70_000 E car would be expected. That level of slugishness could be understandable in 2010, maybe in 2015 for a budget car, but in 2022, for this much, really?

Already on his channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3LOhGmLlq6VfpY
@kruemelfelix Жыл бұрын
A Model 3 LFP will definitely not coldgate if you can start with a full charge. It will need around 45min to heat up the battery under max load on the heat pump, maybe a bit longer if it's -20°C. But once that's done the car will charge with 170kW like normal.
@kepter9990 Жыл бұрын
@@duffman5z that was done at around 0 degrees Celcius. 22 degrees warmer than this video. It's completely different scenario. same as comparing +0 degrees weather cold test to +22 degreees summer test.
@kepter9990 Жыл бұрын
@@kruemelfelix from my own experience the LFP charging experience beyond -20 celcius is quite RIP. however the model 3 LR with NCA battery will still do well in -25 celcius even maxing at 250kw if you have preheated the battery. But when you drive highway speed in -25c with LFP battery my experience is that it will struggle to hit 100kw even if it's
@kepter9990 Жыл бұрын
Essentially I believe that the issue is the heat pump that just cant provide enough heat for preheating the LFP when driving 100km/h+ on highwawy for 2 hours in -25c weather. -20c seems to be around the edge temperature where the heat pump can keep up. NCA batteries are less affected by cold weather so this issue is not so well present in those cars.

Hm, the heater is drawing 5kW, at a cabin temperature of... 23C o_O. With current prices, my home(160m2) gas heater is at ~4kW, keeping the temperature inside at ~19C at ~2C outside. I wonder how much would it draw if cabin temperature would be 18C or maybe even lower and instead of continuously heating fresh, cold air, being in recirculating mode, with fresh air blown every minute every quarter hour? A human needs about 20m3 of fresh air per hour, no need for continuous fresh air for the driver alone.
