I loved when Henny did my hair. I have thin edges and she made my hair look like I had thick edges with just water and oil. She is awesome.

I enjoyed y’all 😭🤗... Henny spoke facts. Last year I got a sew-in (in Atlanta 👀) and she braided my foundation TOO TIGHT. I spoke up in the beginning but I guess by the time she made it towards the top of my head it got tighter. She then sewed the net and the weave tight. My head was POUNDING. She said yea that’s normal it’ll get better, it’ll loosen up. Never did. I was popping pills, couldn’t sleep. I rinsed my head a few days later and It was still extremely uncomfortable. It just wasn’t normal to be that tight. I took it down after 2 weeks. Discovered bald spots in various places of my head. Never again will I not speak up.

I went to get a good trim and I ha(d)ve thick healthy hair. I was told they couldn’t do a good trim unless it was flat ironed for it to be even. Now I’m sitting here mad cause I have heat damage and I had not used heat in YEARS. I should have listened to my intuition. Thanks for this conversation, it’s appreciated. 😊

Thank you Henny for the education overall. In particular about the history of black salons and barbers, I didn’t think of not having an appointment and people would just walk in and it’s a social thing.

My Empire Beauty School wasn’t such a great experience. There wasn’t much diversity either, especially where it was located. We did lots of curly perms and roller sets on 80 year old women who barely had any hair. 😭😂

I'm older than most, so my experiences with salons are old school. I have heard some of the best tips from this stream. Honestly, this was fantastic and so true on so many levels. I appreciate both of you!

My mommy and sister always braided my hair without blow drying; natural state, no product. As time moved on, we have seemed to break away from the original way of doing not only hair but other things as well. Loved the stream and discussion! Thanks for uploading to KZbin☺️

I'm catching up on videos. This was a very good live hate I missed it. Y'all was on point with so many things. That whole braiding on dirty blow dried hair never made sense to me. My momma used to do our hair at home and always washed then braided and didn't need the hair straighten or gel. A lot of these new age practices is why so many are suffering from hair damage. You and Henny right some people want natural hair but not the look. I've seen so many now with locs but putting braids,twist, wigs, etc. over them saying they waiting for their locs to get long. Like it just doesn't make sense. Great video! You guys could definitely do a podcast

Thanks bunches. 3 time's a year I go to supposedly black female beauty school the only thing for is no I don't need heat 🙂 Growing my hair tail bone length or 26 inches almost there. 👍🏼👍🏼 I wash my hair with sulfur soap just read about all the shampoo class action lawsuits must read.

Most of what Henny said is the reason why I don't go to salons anymore. I would let her and Nirada do my hair based on there transparency alone and their work speaks for itself. I actually may have to make a trip to get my hair done for my brothers wedding photos cause I can't let just anyone in my head.

People are scared because people don’t have relationships with their stylists because we chair hop so much, for what ever the reason is. If we had a relationship with our stylists it would be easier to speak up lol
@AfrikanHairGod4 жыл бұрын
The problem is that people have been scarred and traumatized from past experiences with hair stylists so it takes a lot for them to put so much trust in a new stylist. Plus there is a disconnect between a lot of hair stylists when it comes to clients and their natural hair. Many people feel like most stylists are not properly educated on how to care for natural hair.

I planned to go to a deva curl based salon for a cut and color and I'm honestly fed up. They want you to come in with your hair without product(outside a bit of rinse out conditioner left in) but mostly dry and detangled(or you will be charged extra), yet unmanipulated with braids or twist that can alter your curl pattern. Girl...for type 4 hair, that's pretty difficult to do! That's how you know these devacurl salons aren't really for us. I had to cancel honestly. Shouldn't your hair be semi dirty when you color anyway? I mean, I get you don't want a bunch of product build up before coloring but cmon. They recommend washing the hair a day/night before to easily fulfill this. There is no way I can wash my fine 4c hair a day before a salon visit and keep my hair dry and detangled without product and braids/ twists.
@raquellalisa72964 жыл бұрын
I went to get my big chop at a Deva cut salon. I did what they recommended, my hair looked like a block lol (because I slept with a bonnet) Chile I looked so crazy with them straggly ends. I just wanted my hair cut decent for my BC 💁🏾♀️ still had to get rid of some straight ends off in the days following though
@iateyursandwiches4 жыл бұрын
@@raquellalisa7296 yeah deva cuts aren't horrible. I got my tapered cut there. However, the prep they need you to do beforehand, especially with how much they charge for a cut, is ridiculous and stressful. In variably, they will have to detangle unless you wash your hair hours before which is more$. I expect lower prices too if I basically have to do most of the work and all you do is slap on cowash and cream in my hair; at the very least, don't charge people for their hair not being detangled( not matted obviously).

I like to support my black stylists but the last few times they have done me wrong. I schedule appointments and they double book and make me reschedule my appointment. Or you ask them not to braid your edges tight AF and they get mad and braid it tight anyway...like what is that??? Im about to give up!
@AfrikanHairGod4 жыл бұрын
Leave a honest review and read reviews before you go to help reduce the chances of that happening. Everyone loves to complain after the fact but then that's as far as it goes. We all have to do our part so that the businesses and owners that deserve our money are actually getting it.
