Bike looks really good ! I do understand your frustration with the rattle, and i agree that letting it sit for a while, and regrouping your thoughts and energy , is a prudent plan. But, do not lose sight of the success you have in the rest of this bike, cuz it looks fantastic !

Thanks , yea, I have all the parts here now, just not sure yet when I’ll get to it.

You do this for the sheer enjoyment of doing a great restoration. yeah, I've gone the cheap Route myself more than once, and paid the price, needing to undo and redo what seems like everything I did before. UGH! Painful! Now, I buy everything with doing a good quality restore. If I need to spend another $50 for a part that looks fine, but still is a possible question in my mind, I go with buying the new part. That way I know it's going to work, and the person I sell the machine to is not going to come back at me when the Engine Blows up after 2000 miles. Helps me sleep better, and it's worth the extra $50-$100 to not have to go back and redo literally everything again. Because the second time, I'm upset with myself. And the second redo just isn't quite as enjoyable. No, let me correct myself, It isn't enjoyable at all! I can easily understand why a Project gets put to the back of the Shed and stays there until the guy has died and his kids are now trying to figure out what to do with Dad's project.

Thanks for watching and commenting David. yea, it will run me $500-600 for all the parts necessary to do it over again. Most of them are ordered now and on the way, just have to get a chain from Tony Galea in the UK, they're NLA from Honda. I hope to not be dead before I get this fixed, but it will wait a while until I summon the motivation. I don't like tackling stuff I'm not motivated to do.

I never get a really firm brake lever right away. I usually get it good enough, ride it for a while, and then I'm able to get that last bubble out. Those 3 piece are even trickier. 2 piece simplifies that--but doesn't keep that OEM look. Got a set of 2-piece Speigler's in the mail (after they allowed me to return the incorrect ones I ordered) for the VFR700. Hopefully my reverse bleed works fairly well. Man, that blows that the whole thing has to come back out. I feel for you Stray. The bike is looking amazing to.

Thanks Matt, yea it blows that I have to pull the engine again. One day ill learn (maybe).

Oh man...sorry about that Stray.....I think you have killed my desire to get an 86 CB700SC I was looking at in Houston. I had no idea the starter drive could be such a major issue. Hang in there!

Hi Jim, Starter Chains, Starter chain Tensioner, Cam Chains and Cam Chain tensioners - on the early bikes were an issue, later bikes the issue was resolved. How much later I do not know Jim

Nice looking bike ! I feel for you, my '87 rattles as well and have to sort. Hoping I can get away with the tensioner alone

Hi, starter chains are apparently prone to failure , so best to replace it all while in there. I didn’t and now I’m paying the price, I have to do the job all over again. I got good advice from a subscriber and I cheaper out and didn’t follow it. Galea Cam Chain services in the UK can get you a starter chain (and a cam chain while you’re in there). CMSNL has tensioners

Have mine stripped now. The tensioner has snapped in the middle and was rubbing against the gear, lucky that it didnt break up completely!! @@true-moto-resto

@@Craig-ui4ow nice, should be an easy fix then.

Too bad you don't live near me, I'd love for you to use my DigiSync to sync those carbs. You could make a video of the tuning. Scott in southern Oregon

Yes, that would have been cool. Ill have to make do with my vacume gage set once I get this started chain issue resolved, but great idea for a video !
