84mm Throttle Body Upgrade 540i M62 (BMW E39)

In today video I am installing the 84mm throttle body from a 2010 N62. There’s two variations on the N62. A 82mm and 84mm. You’ll have to check the part number which is 13547535308. Once you’ve found the right one. Cut the harness off and look for the one with violet, brown, brown/red, blue and white. That’s going to match the colors of your M62. The harness may be off an older N62. I’m unsure what model I pulled it from but a quick Pick n pull run should suffice. After replacing harness. I'm running the same 84mm TB, along with the Dinan intake tube, 4" MAF, M60 Intake Manifold with the Velocity Stacks, DUDMD tune, running the stock airbox as it's already a CAI. The one you installed is a HOT air intake. Additionally have a lightweight flywheel, M5 clutch, deleted the factory resonators and muffler, threw in a Magnaflow resonator. Last mod was a clutch fan delete, and upgraded to a Zionsville radiator with electric fan.

Sounds like it’s a sweet ride! How’s she feel with lightweight flywheel and clutch fan delete. Does she noticeably rev faster?

It made a world of difference with the acceleration. My setup is dead even with the 392 Charger/Challenger's from 70+

You have to get a 750i or 550i throttle body from a 4.8 thats the one you want. Got mine in a junkyard for nothing.

Dope ride bro! I've got a 97, the Non-VANOS M62. I'm still working on taking care of maintenance issues as the wallet allows. I've done the timing chain + guides, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, AC Comp. I still have a few things to go, I want to replace the rubber bits on the engine, it needs a new front bumper, suspension components are all tired and I need some new bushings for the shifter since it's a bit loose. It already came with a Clutch fan delete with the electric fan replacement, and a Mishimoto aluminum coolant reservoir. I'm really interested in what you're doing with your car because after I take care of the above items I want to give it OEM+ style upgrades like yours. As in, I want to keep it stockish with OEM grade replacements - Dinan parts when I can find them and similar. So I'm curious how the car performed prior to the throttle body replacement, and what effect on performance it has without tuning the car for it. If the Dinan throttle body needed a tune, what makes the E60 throttle body an upgrade without the tune? Oh yeah and I've got a video on my page of a drive I took if you want to see mine. When I get a proper camera I'll start making more content with mine. I absolutely love it, and am amazed at the way these cars hold up if you take care of them. With 200k miles on the clock on mine, the interior looks like it has half that or less. No tears or rips, just a little cracking of the drivers seat. The biggest problem I have is the passenger side of the front bumper has a chip and some broken clips - looks like it had a low speed accident parking, and the clear coat on the Seibon carbon fiber hood is really rough from being parked outside. Looking forward to more content, cheers bro!

Awesome man! With the timing chain guides done you’re all set. No much will leave you stranded besides the cooling system. I’d knock that all out and you’ll be good to go. This upgrade made such a huge difference. I still can’t believe how much more the car pulls without a tune. I can only imagine with a tune. Plus you’re already set with the bigger manifold. But I think you can’t run this since you have the drive by wire. And don’t be worried about the camera! I make all my videos with an iPhone. Just make enthusiastic e39 content, there’s plenty of classic BMW enthusiasts. Not to mention when you’re done with your e39. You’ll have a priceless ride!

@@edirty9Thanks for taking the time to reply man. I did have a minor hiccup with the cooling system when I first got it, the Fan Switch died on me. Going to replace the radiator next, but I need to get the front bumper fixed first. The grill is missing from whatever collision occurred and leaf debris and dirt get in the bottom of the radiator which I have to clean out regularly. Since I don't have drive-by-wire I'll have to see what throttle body options are available to me. I absolutely love the E39 and I don't plan on ever letting this car go. The thing I didn't expect when I got it was just how big of a split personality these cars have and it's made me love the 540's even more. One minute it's a super comfy boulevard cruiser that never needs to rev over 1800 rpm and runs whisper quiet, the next the DOHC V8 is screaming towards redline building power all the way while being able to chuck it into a corner like a car much smaller! I find myself reminding people who say it's too big to handle that no one makes that claim about the present day 3 series which shares near identical exterior dimensions!

What intake tube are you using to mate up to the throttle body? I’ve been sitting on my n62b48 throttle body for a couple years.

@@ericbauer4559 Yh original throttle body has a rubber seal around it so it can seal to the tube, the n62 throttle body is bigger and fits exactly the same with no rubber seal on it
