I wouldn't paint it. Looks mean as is.

That's a slick looking rig. Honestly, it doesn't look horrible cosmetically. Myself , I would consider just shooting some clear coat on it and seal in the patina. Nice job on the old girl, I would be proud to have that sitting in my driveway.
@DEBOSSGARAGE8 жыл бұрын
+ih1206 The drivers side looks good, the passenger side has a giant patch where the paint is peeled and it doesn't match the rest of the patina. We talked about clear coating it but his goal is to have a new paint job. If he paints it, he would have to remove the clear again. If you like it now, wait for the tires and paint job!

+jeff stevenson I will do a follow up on this one probably in the middle of summer, and definitely when the paint is on. I have to spend some time on the GTO, Fleetmaster (both cars have 95% of the metalwork done, both drivelines and interiors are complete) and then some other cool projects are in the works. Small teaser- Batman, Farrari, LS conversion and a roadtrip....

How much did this guy pay you to rebuild this truck? Seems like it may have been easier/cheaper to just buy a new one, or at least a used one.
@bad_covfefe6 жыл бұрын
Cheaper? For a 1 ton dually with a 6bt? Nope.
@LionHeart08086 жыл бұрын
Paul Stafford no way would it be cheaper to get a new fully loaded cummins 3500 dually crew cab for cheaper than rebuilding an old one. 1) The older trucks have better quality parts than newer chinese truck parts. 2) Older trucks are more stylish than new trucks. 3) Older trucks parts are cheaper and easier for average Joe's to work on. 4) Older trucks are more simple and have lesss crap to go wrong on them versus newer trucks with all their electronics. 5) This swap is still going to be way cheaper than a new $75,000 fully loaded Ram 3500 cummins crew cab dually. 6) Some people just like to tinker and push the envelope of what is possible otherwise the human race would still be stuck in the stone age. 7) Who wouldnt want a one of old school classic vehicle?

u think the injectors or piston rings cause the blue smoke??
@DEBOSSGARAGE8 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Gohrmann It doesn't seem to be burning oil, and the smoke seemed to burn my eyes so I'm thinking its unburnt fuel. 2 of the injectors were dripping so that would be part of the cause. I know the engine was sitting for a while and the customer supplied the engine. After the acetone and new injectors, it starts way better and vibrates a lot less. Im hoping with a good hard long run, some more of the smoke will clear up.

Are you going to put a newer front grille from a 1991-1993 it looks a lot better.
@DEBOSSGARAGE8 жыл бұрын
+Dodge 318 Cummins That is a "chrome" grille from a 92. The plastic one from the 85 was all cracked and I agree, the 91-93's look much better

Why take so long? Only took me like 3 weeks to yank the 360 and 727 and be driving the 5.9 and getrag. :-) I didn't convert mine to 4wd though and I know that is a chore. I am considering it because it is so helpless off road but I would like to keep it low. I wonder if I could undersling the springs and still clear the oil pan??
