WOW, Im getting ready to buy a 2009 MX5 Miata and was planning on doing the say thing with it. It has the same unimpressive old school radio, and I want to see info from the OBD and have already made plans on the same set up. Thanks for the magnet option, was going to install brackets or clips, but your option is way better. Would like to see more about combining tech in cars as I really want to expand the driving experience. I haven't address the glair issue with the top down but was leaning tword the ipad mini, but like Android just as much so still researching Loved this video, please expand on it with updates!!! This is cool. I've been researching head units for my 2010 Ford Escape. It kinda irks me that all of the 10" units use 1024*600 IPS displays. I would pay an extra $100 for a better screen. An 8" 1280*800 would work for me but your little $85 setup is interesting. Problem is the car already has a crappy Bluetooth. I would do this in a Samsung tablet. What I'd like to do is take a 10" unit and swap out the screen for a better one. I wonder if the built in GPU could handle it?

Cool! i use a similar bluetooth set-up in my car, the downside is that it doesnt have a center console so you can see the cable and stuff, but it blends in nicely the only downside is that i have to remove it and charge it every week or so, not such a big deal to be true. Cool video dude i can't believe that you're getting snazzier and awesomer, now there'll be the fab 6, Austin, Marques, Lew, Michael, Jonathan and you:) i said it before and you guys are like The Beatles... but with 2 extra guys. Lol.

Oliver Lopez Maybe you could run a constant current to the receiver and then affix it under the dash or somewhere that is unseen but also always powered so that your phone will stay connected. Idk, it's worth a shot! And thank you so much for the kind words. I have a long ways to go before I start producing content like them, but I surely wouldn't mind! LOL. Stay snazzy!

I saw a post on reddit a while back called 'I installed a Nexus 7 in my car, it looks awesome!' and ever since I've been thinking of doing the same thing. While it will be a permanent mod I need to make sure it will be put to use by me since I've been thinking of getting a new car.
@snazzy
@snazzy 9 жыл бұрын
JohnnyFTD See, that's my issue. I know that if I was going to install something into the dash, I couldn't help myself but spend several thousand dollars more upgrading the speakers and amps. I'd do it if I knew this car was going to be my car for a long, long time. But I have nearly 70k miles on it, it's 6 years old, and so I may turn it within the next year. We'll see.

Hello, Is an Automotive Dead Reckoning (GNSS?) solution available with this device? As GPS connectivity is not always available, it would be useful if my iPhone using Google Maps or perhaps a Garmin-type device or an aftermarket integrated Sat Nav system could access vehicle telemetry to continue navigating through these satellite connectivity blindspots in tunnels, carparks or canyons of buildings. Many thanks, Seamus. :)

Impressive, even at twice the price. but..... What are the Skill Sets you tapped for this? (difficulty level question) 1) Jail Break tablet 2) any programming? 3) fiberglassing? ( i think the tablet 'just fit' with magnets? 4) re-wire the car's power, USB, and? thanks 5) all those Great Graphic displays are in the $9.99 app? I'm doing a Python gauge set on a Rasp_Pi and its A LOT OF WORK! thanks!

I have a dasaita android head unit. It cost like just under 500 shipped came with a backup cam, canbus module built in, Bluetooth, wifi, android 9, running a px6 rockchip arm processor with 8 cores and 4gb of ram, and I think 128 gb of storage, gps extension, mic, and everything was 100% plug and play. For me, I have a lot of custom electronics installed, but for my cruze, everything form the bezel to the wiring harness just worked. Only took about 30 minutes to install total. Then I bought and installed a custom rom from malaysk, and run carwebguru with custom gestures and obdlink, torque, Spotify etc. Has 2 usb ports one of which is dedicated to my modified obdlink sx and the other is connected to a 4 port usb hub which feeds a splitter for 2 dash cams and the serial feed from my wideband. :)
