I hope he someday learns that Windows users use separate desktops and laptops for different purposes, and we almost notoriously slap on Linux distros on older computers and continue using them.

The fans on my 14" M3Pro MacBook pro run at full tilt when I am doing intensive work or when playing a game on the computer but that is okay. It's what the fans are for. Apple spent a lot of money designing the chassis of the current generation MacBook Pro and it's quite evident that they planned to offer more power-hungry chips all along. The computers cooling was overkill for M1/M1 Pro but it's exactly adequate for M3 Pro. M3 Max generates enough heat that you really should use a 16" MBP if you need that chip.

Mac is slower over time because Apple Updates intentionally slow it down on all their devices. Apple has to force its users to buy replacement devices somehow. My longest lasting Windows laptop was purchased in 2010, and it has experienced Windows 7, 10, and Mint. It is currently a backup laptop, and I have gotten a new daily driver in 2024.

Has anyone thought. Mac OS , and all prpgrams, ran on an x86. Mac makes a processor, to run MacOS, and x86 programs, but doesmt have an x86 lisence.

It’s about the ecosystem. Being a software engineer and HW engineer, it’s not all about the HW numbers. It’s about how Apple has built an integrated ecosystem that is compelling.

Since you were there in Qualcomm labs, did you ask or was it mentioned about replaceable arm chips? From the old x86 chips they do die. Are going to be able to replace the chips or just buy a new motherboard/new computer

The M1 was never revolutionary, as much as every Apple die hard would make you believe. They took years of experience developing their mobile chips and scaling them for laptops. Not to mention, those chips aren't cheap. And its disingenuous to say "Apple now has competition"... Ryzen systems have performed just as well, and in other aspects better, all this time - while sipping slightly more power. The advantage Apple had was coding the OS and designing the CPU hand in hand to get enhanced performance for the platform. Apple took one giant leap, and is stuck looking for improvements now, while AMD and even Intel are gradually increasing every single performance aspect of their CPU's and blazing ahead.

The big problem with Apple silicon processors is the performance for professionals, especially the poor GPU performance of M processors. For the price of a Mac Studio or Mac Pro, you can assemble a much more powerful PC for half the price! And I didn't touch on the compatibility problems that M processors have.

I bought an i5 2020 MacBook Pro only for logic board to fail at 26 months. Apple didn’t want to know, despite consumer laws in the U.K. and the hundreds of stories I have found telling the same story. Since the M chips don’t run tons of intel software, I’ll never buy one of theirs again.

So if the world is going to ARM chips what does that mean for Intel? Please, no haters, okay? I mean I don’t really believe Intel is going away. But it does mean Intel needs to compete and soon. Or, maybe sell off the CPU division and cut its future losses.

there was never any magic, the marketing make the chip seems physics defying. In truth every manufacture have access to almost the same fabrication technology and same genius chip designer, apple is running expensive large chips at the most efficient frequencies, most consumer cannot afford to do things this way.

No worries, the shrinking of the transistors might slow down a lot for silicon-transistors. That is the 'easy' lowhanging fruit, there are many other ways to make chips faster. Think about datalatencies. Also there are other materials than silicon to make chips from and those can be shrunk down a lot more. As Ian Cutress (former Anandtech) says: with many millions of people working in the chip-industry they will keep finding ways for a long time to make chips faster. I agree.

Don't understand it intuitively. but in aw of the products that are being produced. i have the gpb360v1. and it is just a beautiful piece of hardware. i would buy their arm based 360 device be it andrioid/win/chrome. With windows sometimes i wonder if the winos has actually improved much for the avg user. Things like browsers are kicking butt (to me). But things like the desktop space I have kind of been waiting to see if they made it into more then just a messy dumping location.
