Instead of "ocean" or "sea" burst you could try a honeyburst table - it would be interesting to put something in a similar palette against the walnut too, it's exceptional walnut and even if the solid or burst blue can't beat it maybe a "honey" or "tea" burst could.

I never leave comments but this one hit home a bit. There's something to be said for versatility and proving a point. I commend that fully. But to a person who thinks that finding the artistic capacity of the wood and creating something beautiful with it is art in itself. Wood carving or whatever other form of raw talent you "dont" have is not overshadowed by being able to take Walnut and create something worth what you ask for it. What's more, to say that Wood must be colorful to be good is laughable, that's what metal is for. Woodwork is to showcase the wood, hence the reason most carpenters use coatings that don't alter it's color. The beauty is in the material and the ability to shape that material not the carcinogens you cover it with.

Yeah i think the blue one is super cool but I start think if I had that table where would I put it and I came to the conclusion it’s just way too much table like I would have to theme a whole room around that table to the point the room would be around the table rather than the table in the room and I just ain’t got the sauce for all that

My listening room is all blue and gold decor. A really swanky place to drink bourbon and listen to records. That blue one would have been perfect. But I can see why the walnut would be a more versatile piece for a variety of settings. Thanks for telling us the prices.

I wonder how much the colour impacted things. A bright blue colour will have trouble selling, as a lower number of bidders will lower the ending bids. Most commonly wanted colours are neutral colours: the usual white, grey an black, along with darker tones of blue, turquoise and green. Blacktail Studio added colour and did great work with that and the work as a whole, but the choice of colour itself is a vital step he didn't linger on long enough. I don't know if that would have bumped up the price or not...

Respectfully, I don’t have the $997 for the course. I’m trying to create a woodworking business out of my garage and I haven’t even got the money to put my heating on this winter. Can you advise those of us who are struggling on how to move forward? The main issue I’ve found is finding a platform that actually works for the little guys. EBay and Etsy have been a non starter. My work is high quality yet all I seem to get is totally ridiculous offers that aren’t even 10% of materials costs.

Brown. The blue table is actually really cool, but I think it appeals to a smaller group of people. The oil finished walnut look is kind of timeless and can mesh well with a lot of other decor choices. The blue table is basically limited to ultra modern style spaces. Both are awesome though. The blue table is definitely unique!

I feel like an intruder posting here, but I really enjoy watching these videos. At 85, I don't have the stamina, the skill, or the room in my garage to undertake anything at all in the woodworking world. I did take woodworking in my Texas high school under a terrific teacher and got an appreciation for the products of our work and imagination. Then, later, as a high school math teacher, I could appreciate the skill of the teachers and what their students produced. I spend a couple of hours or more each day watching, and really enjoy your comments, your trial-and-error methods and always the finished product. Don't worry about the trolls - they're everywhere! The turquoise fade was an awesome choice. It helps bring out the pattern in the wood, and when you're working with an organic product, you should always try to take advantage of the natural art that's already in the wood. If I were in the market for a table, I'd have gone for blue. But blue is also my favorite color and you did a spectacular job.

Surprisingly, I think the blue table will sell for more. If you do another colored table, guitar makers often start with a black or charcoal stain first to get the grain patterns to really "pop", then sand it back and use the actual color such as blue, purple, etc.

Brown...and I'm originally from the midwest!!! You're correct about the blue and the coasts. I sold a place I owned in Sausalito a few years ago. When remodeling it, I had four panel solid oak doors installed, custom maple kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, custom oak fireplace surround and mantel, and oak crown mouldings. Sold the place to a native Californian and first thing he did was paint everything white and painted the walls gray and black!!!! YIKES!

Brown. Hands down. The reason walnut/wood pieces will always sell for more is they are able to fit a wider array of décor styles and color pallets. Bright blue like in the video is niche. At best. And, much easier to come by for affordable prices at major retailers. You can't get hardwood tables, let alone ones with resin inlays and pours, at Walmart or Lowe's. That said, I think both pieces turned out beautifully and you really elevated the results with those amazing finishes.

I like the texture you put on the bottom of both tables, if you were the make a table top with that texture and dye it blue, it would resemble water a lot i think. Blue might actually win, considering how unique it is, and the fact that it's all for charity. I'm also biased because that blue table is one I'd love to own 😆The way you sanded the top just enough so that the color of the natural wood peeks back through the blue was such a good idea. The way the grain kind of...wobbles? If that makes sense? makes it look like a still image from above of shallow water along a beach. Truly a wonderful bluejob (: 💙

If you want figured maple to really pop, dye it black, sand it back then add the blue to clear, then some straight clear. You will get a lot of depth like that. Love both tables and the idea behind this video! Keep up the great work

I can definitely see that blue table in a sleek modern house but for my family’s historical beach house in California (house was built in the 1800’s level of historical) the walnut one would complement the other furniture better but I’d love to see what you can do with a California Red Wood project maybe inspired by 1800’s Santa Cruz CA as a nod to the EMERALD QUEEN’S commitment (don’t know how to get KZbin to show my name instead of my handle so I’m just going to write my name in the comment itself)

Hey Cam, just wanted to say I'm a big fan of yours. I don't do any woodwork whatsoever, but I watch all your videos. You figured out what it takes to generate millions of views - creativity, genuineness (and yes, you talking adds so much personality and interest in these videos), humor, and just all the beautiful and detailed work in general. I think I'm part of the many, but these videos are always something I look forward to (to watch between work breaks or sleep). Just wanted to share that! Also, if you do any future charity videos, would you be open to the Dravet Syndrom Foundation? One of my closest friends just found out his 11-month old daughter has Dravet syndrome. It has no cure, and 20% of children don't make it to adulthood. Since it impacts such a small minority of children, it doesn't get the attention it needs. Just wanted to throw it out there, and appreciate what you're doing for the Make a Wish foundation! All the best, Anthony.

Ive worked with imported and domestic veneers my whole career so I love your channel. While I'm accustomed to more traditional furniture finishes I really like the blue table especially that the top is faded on the interior. Admirable that you are donating proceeds to such a great cause. 👍

The walnut table is inoffensive/safer but I imagine the places the blue table is going to work are going to be a lot more visibly interesting.

Since your tables are symmetrical, another technique would be to turn it on a lathe, then finish it off with power carving and hand work. Seems like it might be easier and faster. I’m a Woodturner but have never turned anything that big, but it certainly could be done. Awesome job! Thanks for sharing

The underbase texture looks great. I'd love a table with that texture all over (obviously plain flat top). As for the colours, the blue does look really nice. Key problem is that many colour schemes won't work with the blue whereas the walnut works with most. So even though it looks just as good you've reduced your customer base fighting over it at auction. Different coloured woods might look great too, but again walnut likely has the largest customer base which will offset the fact that other woods might look nicer for some customers. That quilted maple in a wood colour would likely be my favourite given the right room colour scheme, though the blue turned out fantastic too.

I generally consider paint on the wood as sacrilege or just bad taste as it hides the natural beauty of the veins. But because the semitransparent blue paint doesn't entirely hide the veins, the table looks gorgeous. It changed my mind about painting a piece of wood. Thank you for the inspiration, knowledge and entertainment.

I would say you're still correct when it comes to actual paint on stain grade wood being sacrilegious. Luckily the blue tint he used here was more of a stain, so you can still see the wood grain.

Brown - I really thought I would hate the blue one, but I actually really like it. I am a natural wood color fan, and I still think the brown one will sell for more, but I hope I am wrong. I am glad the viewer questioned your color choices and that you rose to the challenge. The way the blue makes the maple grain pop is just incredible. Another phenomenal video.

For my eyes the wood always looks best before the finishing that makes the wood dark and shiny. That makes me think of an old couples furniture. Please try to leave the wood lighter sometimes. I'm Scandinavian. That might explain something. I know nothing about woodworking. But your channel is definitely one of my favourites! ❤

Actually I think the blue turned out 100% better than I imagined. For my taste I would not buy that color, it would not fit with anything in my house but I can see that in many many houses with a contemporary decor. I can't wait to hear who bids and how much they go for.

I just love watching you work, your creativity, admitting your misgivings & failings is especially refreshing. I wasnt a huge fan of the blue table (my love for natural woodgrain). But I tried to analyze what bothered me. I think it's the way the aqua fades to the centre of the top. It kinda looks like as kids your felt tip runs out so you lick it and scrub for all its worth to get the last smidges of color. I agree monotone isn't always the most interesting so maybe next you could contrast with darker tones rather than fading to lighter tones.

Blue. And I have to say, I’m stunned that that is my opinion. Had you gone with a solid blue, I think it easily would have been the walnut table, but the texture you gave the blue table makes it absolutely gorgeous. I am pretty conservative when it comes to taste in furniture; in my world, most of the time different is not necessarily good. In this case, you did your work, Make-A-Wish, and the blue table all proud. I appreciate all of your videos, and I especially appreciate anyone who gives their time as freely as you do just to help (and entertain) others. Kudos to all that you do in life and may you be rewarded many times over for your generosity. BTW, don’t sell yourself short on your skills. Those with great skills, but no heart to try anything new play a second fiddle to those with decent skills that are always willing to try something new.

Hi I wanted to thank you for the ispiration, i did a year abroad in canada and I took woodworking 12 because you were the one youtuber with whom I got into liking woodworking, taking that class I fell in love for the craft, and back home I started a small workshop in my garage, and my love for woodworking only grew stronger, and anyway as I’m watching your video I’m litterally shaking because I want to craft more, and seeing all your amazing tools and more importantly listening to your message sparks my immagination. We have complete diffent style and equipment but I think you are the person who inspired me the most in the woodworking jorney. So thank you for all you have done and for being such and inspiring person

blue is such a stunning color! of course both tables are gorgeous but the deep vibrant blue at the base fading to almost the natural color of the wood is so cool. love that you can still see the wood grain through the stain, i think you're selling your own artistry and the appeal of stained wood short here.

maybe you should try out a "floating" acrylic waterfall table; where a wooden surface is supported by a "waterfall" that tapers inwards towards the middle and flows into a base--it would require some serious sculpting, but the result would be pretty insane.
