I reckon this piece is more like a work of art in wood than a book shelf or a cabinet. Maybe someone with a very expensive watch collection would want it to display them in this. The added lights would make it work well. Or possibly some ridiculously expensive ancient artifacts; Chinese rice bowls that cost a couple of million pounds each displayed individually on the shelves. I just hope whoever buys it treats it with the respect it deserves. Great vid. Big thumbs up. 🙂🙂🙂

Working with UV almost every day, I have two recommendations; 1) Wear UV blocking glasses. Even short exposure can lead to uncomfortable itchy eyes and other transient (but not permanent) discomforts 2) Determine the wavelength (in nm) of the curing light. Odds are, there is a cheaper alternative that's marketed as germicidal or used for curing finishes in other fields (for example UV cured windshield chip repair, or UV cured 3d printing, perhaps germicidal UV, etc). The light you're using looks pretty lavender, which is closer to the far end of the UV spectrum

Most safety glasses block like 99% of UV-A and UV-B light I believe so you may not need to buy anything special.

@Toekneepowers Oh dear goodness! So way back in 2010 I went to a DoD police academy and like many others there I was both prior service and prior MP. One of my classmates was a recently retired Army CW3 CID agent. The subject came off classes we’d attended and CID attends a lot of the FBI classes. For his forensics the agents egged them into asking the instructor about “the dress” because she was the principal technician who had worked on it. The long and short of it was that she could confirm that Wild Bill’s sample was on the dress, along with something like 4-6 OTHER donors whom had also been identified but she was not allowed to disclose. So apparently it really was her party dress!

I think you might like it, and we have tonnes of it being cleared weakly on our island. 2. Make a sanding pad edge on (so the paper is on a template edge/banded edge, then fit that in a reciprocating saw....sand the curve evenly? I used it in custom metal fabrication and head porting jobs.

A tip for if you ever use copper again but dislike the color, use liver of sulfer. It instantly turns it a nice black shade and makes it look quite refined, especially if you add resin/shellac over it

That's what I was going to suggest. Use the larger hammer on the copper. Use LOS and buff back the highlights to let the warm copper come through.

Fuming copper in ammonia with a coating of salt and vinegar can produce a beautiful verdigris effect. I would imagine that hammered copper would make for quite an interesting background when sealed.

I think the copper would have looked SUPER GOOD if instead of just doing bright bare metal, you'd burnished, oxidized, or tarnished it. It really just needed to be a little darker and have some variation in the colors. That being said I think it turned out extremely well. It's a very pretty piece, one that I would be happy to have in my home... if I had anywhere near enough money to be able to afford your pieces lmao. If I might make a suggestion: A matching floating enclosed bookshelf or record shelf that could go on the wall above it or nearby. Something with half the depth and height perhaps. I think that would look SUPERB.

This shelf unit is stunning! I watched the whole project over a few days. You actually got through that sanding ordeal!!! I’ve sanded a few things before and hated it. I don’t know how you managed to stay with it. Your design is very beautiful. Even though it has simple lines, it’s very complicated with all those pieces of wood and rounded angles. The shelf unit is smooth and so very elegant.

Cabinet - bookshelves have straight sides so you don't lose space on the edges for tall books. Very good to see you going in a new direction here! I saw a few of the rectangular cut outs for the lights in various shots and I was rather confused right up until the end. Great work!

I don’t really care if it’s called a cabinet, bookshelf, credenza or some other variations of the aforementioned. To me, that is a beautiful piece of artwork that could be purposed in multitude of ways by the lucky owner. I would proudly have it displayed in my home. The dark stained wood contrasts very well with the blued and hammered steel back panel, loved it! You outdid yourself, again!!! No pressure, but I look forward to more fabulous creations from you. it really is something huh. i was curious how much it is and its......$30000. i get it. it was 150 HOURS which comes to 200/hr which seems about right for an amazing furniture maker. the cost of materials, labor, etc. but i really wonder what kind of person is able to buy a cabinet/bookshelf/etc for 30k. i think my mom would love this. i have 30k.. however it would be not smart of me to buy something thats 30k lol

@@pvic6959 rather than focusing on the price, I would look more towards the value. Now and in the future. The market for furniture, hand-crafted with strong provenance is always buoyant. Also the high-end corporate and hospitality sector would always be buyers of such fine design and craftsmanship. In this sector you could add another zero to that price and it would still sell out faster than they could be made. (Not that I anticipate that this craftsman would be in any way interested in volume production).

I’m currently half way through a gut remodel of my house and I’ve designed a lot of built in cabinetry (and also want real wood kitchen cabinets). I’ve been very frustrated with the dearth of information on the internet for the same and decided to build them all myself, since I’ve done all the work on my house (sans plumbing and electrical). Agree on credenza. Gotta say that the hammered blued steel backing is an excellent choice to contrast the walnut. It looks stellar in a kind of retro-futuristic way (think how the 60's saw the future). It would look right at home in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I think that you could've used a liquid instant patina on the copper sheets to make them that reddish-brown of old pipes and pennies. Just re-pound the copper with the bigger hammer. After all of this hand sanding you now have arms of steel.

I'm a house carpenter. One time I couldn't get the skirting to match the existing stuff In a big old fancy house. Spent weeks routing and sanding to make the skirting boards. This was just another level of hard work. And the results were amazing. This channel is great. I have built a number of chests and other furniture pieces with curved corners and cracks and gaps are always a problem but I have always used a tinted hard set wood filler with pretty great results. However the wedge method you used came out great. Also that drill jig for drilling out those brads was excellent. Tear out is such a drag. Those plugs looked perfect

I just started using black walnut myself. I’m not a woodworker, but I like you I have a creative side. I made couple pieces for restaurants using walnut and metal. Thank you for all the time you put into these amazing videos I’m sure it pays well, but it’s still a lot of work. My next step in life is to make river tables if I’m good at it I’ll see if I can get the kind of customers that you have.

Bookshelf, definitely. A cabinet needs to have doors. Anyway, this is probably my favorite of your projects. I didn't think I'd like the steel in the back, but it perfectly contrasts the dark brown of the rest of the cabinet. And, as if that beautiful contrast wasn't enough, you went and made it THAT much better with those hidden lights that tied the whole piece together. I noticed the grooves in the top of each shelf when you were putting the finish on and I was wondering what they were for, didn't expect that perfect finishing touch!

Hands down this is my favorite channel to watch regarding high end tables! I was going to suggest some videos where Ian Roussel makes some acrylic bubble tops for vehicles, but for your particular build I think your method worked great. Seeing that the epoxy bends so easily it made me curious if you’ve experienced any issues with the big tops warping if they are placed near a window. Power outages in Texas heat and it’s not uncommon to reach 90 + degrees indoors, but I really want to build a slab/epoxy table.

Bookshelf. Damn this is a stunning piece. And so happy with your choice of the backplates. The copper was way to warm to go against a warm wood specie.
