Always liked someone doing something unique and trying to make something like the vyper work in FD, even if not beeing overly successful with it. But still, seeing him getting degraded to "DDE in FD" is so freaking sad. Hope that partnership doesnt last to long and he can get some proper sponsors on board again, but Damons been pretty good at burning bridges.

aston martin really made the most expensive and irreplaceable car in a sport where cars get regularly destroyed. I saw FD in new jersey last year and I watched a V8 swapped FRS hit the wall directly in front of me at 60 odd mph. Decimated the front end but they replaced everything *that day*

I still remember when I looked at a couple Aston’s on Forza, realised they had near 50% front weight balance and a drift-able geometry, some of the best drift cars I’ve ever built, insanely fast and pull hard at big angle.

The fact they are using GT3 spec front end specifically when it costs around 25k to 30k or so to replace is cool. It'll be cringe moment when someone gets into him though and tears up those GT3 parts.

Germans have a way of taking traditionally British companies and creating a caricature of what they once were. Why would I buy a new Aston that paraded traditional Aston Martin charm and class when the engine is so clearly an AMG product and the looks/design are less appealing than the previous generation? If they weren't going to use an Aston power train, why not go to LS, It could still make crazy sounds if he made it a priority, while having a reliable and proven motor package with lots of after market support.

Totally agree, aston has completely fallen off. The designs of the new cars are completely class less. The engines and transmissions they've just taken from other manufacturers. But aston engines were always garbage. The v12 cannot make more power than it came with, without destroying the rear rods. It's not dry sump like every other self respecting super car. Majority of the car has ford motor company on it. I would've run the Merc engine

The short rear overhang and the construction of the chassis is a bit worrying ... cast aluminum on all four corners. Ooof. Hit the wall a little too hard and you end up with a car-sized paper weight. But I hope they'll manage to keep it in one piece this season so they'll have the max budget to develop this thing into a total ripper asap.

The short rear overhang is what you want to billow the smoke up & out. Have you ever noticed most FD cars have low front aero & side skirts but very short rear bumpers? That's so none of the smoke gets caught under the car & comes out the back. It's also why some cars are now running no rear windshield. When it's a judging factor it totally makes sense.

@@johnbrennan8611 Overhang has nothing to do with how far the bodywork reaches toward the ground. Overhang is the distance between the axle center line and the front/rear end of the bodywork. The car having so little rear overhang is a problem because there's hardly any room for crashbars and no empty space, no "crumple zone" between the rear body work and structurally important bits of the chassis. And those chassis parts aren't sheet metal/steel, they're cast aluminium. Doesn't get any worse when it comes to the potential damage in case of a wall impact. @@protator oh no problem, i took no offense lol. I am glad there are more & more people out there willing to cut up badass cars like this. Yes it was a GT4 class car, but that pretty much gets you into any FIA or SCCA GT4 event if you have the license. Instead he built a crazy power plant(tho I still wish it was turbo 😉), built a one-off suspension with what I'm gonna assume is completely neutral Ackerman & came out to FD. While I'm a rotary guy by nature, I love this kinda build.

I would say, its a lack of r&d. The e46, the nissan S chassis, 350z, 370z and all the other cheaper cars get beaten up every weekend by some enthusiasts. The ammount of data the after market supplier get is insane and thats in my oppinion the reason why these cars are so good.
