It’s funny how putting a figure with the right companions can tend to drastically improve them. The earthrise seeker mold for example, kinda looks less dynamic than it’s siege counterpart, and even looks a bit dumpy, but when you have starscream, skywarp, and thundercracker together, all those flaws seem to melt away

Sludge wasn’t even used as a character in Fall of Cybertron, the only times you see him in the campaign is when you find him dead while you’re playing as Jazz and when you see an animated hologram of him while playing as Grimlock. That’s how I was introduced to the character of Sludge.

Studio Series 86 Sludge looks awesome. Very much like his G1 cartoon appearance in both robot and Brontosaurus modes. Now that the first three Dinobots, that was introduced in the G1 episode "S.O.S. Dinobots", are front and center, looking forward to Snarl and Swoop to finish off the Dinobot team. Also that DNA Design upgrade kit, that has the cartoon pop out eyes. From when Devastator struck Sludge so hard, his eyes bulged out of his head, during the Autobot City attack.

I got this figure along with a few other figures a week of two ago, my thoughts on those are far clearer than my thoughts on this. I *think* I like SS86 Sludge but I don't know. Alt mode looks good, bot mode is good, transformation is fun. So why don't I love this as much as I should have? Well because the QC on mine is god awful, and it used to be even worse. When I got him his knee ratchets were so weak that he couldn't even stand! Thankfully I was able to fix that however the rest of my QC is still bad. The wings don't stay on because part of it's made of rubber, the neck *barely* connects in dino mode, and the hips are still loose. (Also two of the other figures I got were just based of your recommendation, those being Jhiaxus and Perceptor which I love) Edit: Jesus Christ I had no idea how bad the Fanstoys Sludge looked.

I finally bought one of these and oh man is it good! The only issues I have with my copy are the knees are very loose, I do wish the neck in the alt mode was a bit taller, and The gun looks great but like you said it's too small for the figure. Otherwise he's great! However, I really hate that I skipped out on Slug/Slag because now that I have Grimlock and Sludge, I'm really wishing I could complete the initial trio of the team.

I’m just gonna say it, I like all of these better then any other version I’ve seen, MP included. 86 Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge have all been the dinobots I’ve wanted forever. I love the hip design they use and don’t have the same issues with it as the slight difference in proportion gives each one more character to me, and it never looks bad imo. I saw another video where they weighed it, I guess this guy is heavier then either of the previous 2 even with their mini figs, so that’s cool. I also had no issues with QC and he might just be my favorite of the three. Depending how snarl comes out he may take that spot though, but all of these have been great and it’s so nice that ever since siege the transformers team seems to be taking these lines a lot more seriously. Im hoping we will see the next Dino at pulse-con, every time we get one my anticipation for the next increases.

The only notable cons I have with SS86 Sludge is that the dino neck could have been a bit longer and the robot toes sticking out the bottom of dino mode. An upgrade kit from BDT Studio shows that there’s a way to remedy that. Other than that it looks like a great figure.

Usually, I only need to look at the directions on transformation once when I get a new figure. Sludge has been the only guy who I needed to use multiple times. His legs are just so finicky. It's fantastic, don't get me wrong, but wow!

Just got this figure today, best way to describe it is I went on a 10 minute rant about how much I hate the alt mode gap and how easy it would be to avoid and how its mere existence makes me wanna cry, then follow it up by calling it one of the best figures I own and highly recommending it Also I cut out little pieces of paper and blu tacked it to the dino head to make the eye pop scene in the movie

My favorite Dinobot will always be Snarl, mostly because of my love for Stegosaurus', but you can bet I'll try and grab this if I can. Also, about the reveals on yesterday's livestream. I watched That Toy Guy's reaction to it with Diamondbolt, TFanPage101, Paperplane, and Dr. Lockdown, and someone said that Crankcase's alt mode looked like Animated Soundwave. My prediction is that he'll be retooled/repainted into Animated Soundwave, and that'll be the Deluxe Soundwave we saw in the leaked listings. It's the only logical explanation I can think of for that.

Welp, all we have left now are Snarl and Swoop-though apparently we’ll be getting core class versions of those figures before a leader/voyager variant (the voyager part pertaining to Swoop, given he’s the smallest of the Dinobots). However, given how much you’ve enjoyed the Sludge figure, what kind of posability and transformation steps would you like to see on the next Snarl and Swoop? While I’ve never had a personal experience with Snarl (was gonna get him and PotP Sludge for Volcanicus, but I barely saw them in stores and I just didn’t feel the biggest desire for them at the time. The only actual Snarl figure I’ve had was the AOE figure, so no G1 experience), I’ve had at least two versions of Swoop. PotP and Animated. If there’s one thing I want an 86/Legacy Swoop to do, it’s to have tabbing ports on his robot head so the Pteranodon head can plug in properly. The way they just had Swoop’s Dino head slide onto the robot head in PotP sucked. You always had to apply pressure to get the thing to stay on properly, and you’d have to be careful with it if you wanted the Dino head to remain like that. The Dino head slid onto the robot head on the Animated figure as well, but at least that figure had neck pieces (along with the general build of the robot head) to keep things in place. It really would not take that much effort into giving tabs onto Swoop’s Dino head, and tabbing ports onto his robot head. That way, we have a more secure Dino mode. Also, I’m surprised you didn’t show off the rotation at Sludge’s Dino head. That would be three points of head articulation over Slag.

I don't know what to propose with Swoop and Snarly, Just give them double bends on all their joints so they can dance it up, and make their transformations have no frustrating steps, plus have Swoop's Dino Noggin lock in securely and we will be good. I cannot wait to find one. Another good video. Personally I think swoop will be a leader with his bombs and gun. Swords will have to be 3rd party. And I have found a new purpose after you fulfilling the MMC mirage review. I think you should review universe hound. This mostly comes from my disdain for the siege figure, and no modern earth mode one. And just because the universe hound is so cool, delux hound with a shoulder cannon that has a rocket in it. He’s missing his hologram gun like the siege, but he comes with a whole ass ravage instead. A VS between the 2 or a whats the best would be very neat. (Magic square hound is very good)

Happy Birthday! As for WTB 86 Dinobot, it's really a Toss Up Between Grimlock and Sludge. Grimlock obviously looks cooler, and he's got the better QC almost universally, plus his transformation has no Negatives. Sludge how ever gets SLIGHTLY better Poseability, a far more interesting Transformation, and he lacks all the gaps that Grimlock had that needed to be filled by Upgrade kits. So it's really hard to say, but gut instinct says Grimlock if just for the fact that he's got more consistent QC.

Yeah, Slag is still on some shelves but he's a pain in the balls to get a hold of otherwise, if not just because of the rarity but price.

Do agree that having them all next to each other is great. I was super excited to get this, but in hand I have mixed feelings. Honestly for me Slag has been the most satisfying and solid feeling. Aside from the floppy backpack in robo mode. My sludge has a bit of a mix on joint tolerances. I did decide to Invest in the folding feet kit. They look ok but are a floppy mess when you move or transform him. Need to tighten them, BUT having them folded in Dino mode makes me so much happier.

I have the EXACT opposite experience. Slag is easily the worst, he's got the Strongest knees but they are way too strong, and his backpack falling off and falling apparat all the time is cancer.

Sludge I my favorite dinobot too, I also just got Velocitron Blurr and Legacy Skids, Skids is a decent figure, but the Blurr is the stand out, he looks so cool, and I love his transformation.

Personally I'm sued to the Velocitron Blurr transformation because it's just the same thing as the TR Version so it doesn't really stand out to me so much. Glad you are enjoying it.

I have this weird memory where in the G1 cartoon where the Dinobots betrayed the Autobots and joined the Deceptions, then were destroyed by Shockwave and were rebuilt by Wheeljack and were all of the sudden EXTREMELY loyal. Even more loyal than BUMBLEBEE. Anyways I got this figure and it is a gift from Christ himself.

A figure with a Backpack it shouldn't have, with whacky proportions, and likes to fall apart. We got the bad one out of the way, and it wasn't that bad.
