Total price of $10 required some trading and bargaining. I hope to convert this unit into a 50 ohm VNA. Specs:
300khz - 1.3GHz 1hz resolution less than 5 ppm
-60 to +13 dBm 1dB flatness
100 dB dynamic range

Very nice piece of gear. I look forward to the mods to configure it to 50 ohms. $200 for it was a heck of a deal.

$10 DOLLARS !!!!!!!!!!!. I bought a H/P Spectrum Analyzer for 400 dollars. Frequency from 100KHZ to 26.5 GHZ. I knew what was a matter with the unit from the start. Only a 5 dollar part.

Awesome and great to know! Interesting, if capable to output the data into a software app to process and output the vector/phase related data in whatever format.

Luv it! Interesting piece of HP gear (that I've never heard of) but after you tire of messing with this marvel can you trade it up for something like an electric car? I'll be watching and waiting. Great fun!

This channel is getting too expensive for me. I should unsubscribe to stay retired (kidding). I purchased an HP8591E (with tracking gen and option 140) on Craigs List after seeing yours in action. Truly my favorite add to the RF bench in a long time and indispensable for testing HF/VHF LP filters and amplifiers. Then it was the Weller Erem tools, which several examples made it from e-bay to my bench. So the HP 8711C looks cool... Generally, I'm finding better deals on craig's list than e-bay, but you have to be patient and stay in the hunt longer. Please keep the good content coming!

Hi, enjoy your videos. I have a question for you and hoping to gain some guidance. I have a HP 8594E spectrum analyzer without a tracking generator option, and an rf sweep generator. I am hoping to using these two to test a few of my filters. I have connected my rf sweep gen to my filter in and the output of filter to the SA. Mapped the SA center fq and span settings. I do see the primary and the sub harmonics. But, i am not seeing the attentuation curve/drops responses on my SA. Might I not be spanningclose enough?? Any chance you could demonstrate this setup in your lab please. Thank you Nagi

For $200, did that include the shipping? If not, what did it cost you for shipping? By what method? I know those aren't light or small and shipping costs have gone up significantly over the last year or two.

HP specify that it needs to be Cal'd every 12 months. You and I know that's BS. There's no way it goes rogue after 365 days. Calibration is for box-ticking and telling your commercial customers that it's legally within Cal. For home use, Cal it yourself or have it cal'd by HP every 7 or 8 years. That's all the accuracy you need. After all, an antenna that is showing a non-calibrated return loss of 11dB compared to a yearly Calibrated return loss measure of 11.1 dB? They both tell you the same thing... your antenna, feeder, or connections are bad. Quality equipment like this does not go out of Cal.. Stop worrying and stop getting expensive calibrations done!
@IMSAIGuy
@IMSAIGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for antenna work, who cares. When I worked for Wavetek, we had a big expensive VNA that was our gold standard for measuring return loss in power meter sensors. They has to be perfect and NIST traceable. I'm sure it got calibrated often.
