I've got goosebumps watching this, what a fantastic day it was as a young lad watching rovers. The whole place was buzzing at full time. RTID!!

Shearer was a fucking monster at this point in his career. As a Newcastle fan, the truth is we only got one season of him at this level. He scored a lot under Sir Bobby but he was a different player. He wasn't as terrifying as he was at this point with extra yard of pace. 34 goals in a season. He was just unstoppable.

+Andrew Ross I've suspected this for a while, watching some stuff just now has confirmed it. Dude was on a totally different level at Blackburn...for all the hype he gets he's prob actually underrated.
@olayinkaamara3857 жыл бұрын
Andrew Ross I always believe Shearer was at his best for Blackburn between 1993/94 to 1995/96, in each season he scored over 30 goals in just the league alone.

You got to remember, he was 26 years old when he signed for Newcastle. It’s not as if he joined at 21 or something. He’d been in the league for a long time, and scored a lot of goals, before Newcastle signed him. So yeah, it probably is true that he was probably only going to have a year or two at his absolute peak, at Newcastle, regardless of injuries. But I think you’re going a bit overboard. He had many outstanding seasons at Newcastle The year in this video, he scored 34 goals in all comps. At Newcastle: 1996 = 28 goals in all comps 1999 = 30 goals in all comps 2001= 27 goals in all comps 2002 = 25 goals in all comps 2003 = 28 goals in all comps There was a bit of a drop off, but it was relatively minor. And as I said at the start, he wasn’t a kid when Newcastle signed up. He was 27 years old in his second season. So it’s fairly likely that Newcastle were only going to get 2-3 years of his physical peak

@@chrispalin4043 He also got an ACL injury which kept him out for a year at Newcastle, at a time when that injury finished a lot of careers.

I'm sure this game was televised live on a Saturday tea time. Very novel back then. Me and my Dad listened to the commentary on our way home from getting battered 5-1 at Hillsborough. Everton fan.

Shearer is just impeccable. A lot of modern strikers need three or four touches or dribble to round a keeper. He doesn’t need those touches. He latches onto those balls and hammers it home or places it where he wants with power and precision. The long balls are also beautiful to watch as they are delivered with purpose and land where they are intended.

How do you leave Shearer unmarked in the box? I was in the Riverside. RTID
@TheLastAngryMan017 жыл бұрын
He wasn't unmarked, but he was challenging for an aerial ball with a player several inches smaller than him. Bullet header though.

Shearer scored many goals without that many clear chances. Out of 3, 4 chances he scored 3, 4 goals. Thats why i say that if he played on today's Real Madrid for example, replacing Cristiano Ronaldo, he would score 100 goals per season.
