Hi, can't find our previous conversation here. I had the question about the FINAL selector setting. I first used your setting, which turned out to be pretty far off, BUT it did tell me the power of this setting. Drove differently, sounded different and my RPMs lowered. I then set it properly- in Mode II and got the lights to flash in sync, using the selector, at a 2000 RPMs. My RPMs are still lower and it drives quite nicely. Thank you so much for this info as I can't find it any where else (trade secret). I am relaying this on to an acquaintance on my forum. Thanks again.

I've re-read pg.178- "When selector is in "diagnostic test mode off, a target engine speed can be selected." Sounds like to me if I can't get RPMs set right following the instructions giving in pg. 166-170, that I move selector fully counter- clockwise to off and then set RPMs with the IACV on the throttle body. @keithnoneya Жыл бұрын
Sorry to say, if it's not blinking after you turn it all the way and wait then your ECM is most likely bad in the diagnostic part of the ECM. If the truck runs fine and you don't have a Check Engine Light then you may just consider running it. If the truck is not running fine or you don't want to just run it as it, you can send it off and have it checked. You can also look at the numbers on the side and go to the local wrecking yard or look for one on line with the same numbers on it and replace it. I hope that helps point you in the right direction on what you can do about it. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

That's a new one on me. I hate Phantom or intermittent gripes. I would check to make sure you have a good ground going to your ECM. Follow the cable and find the ground attached to the frame and unscrew it clean it and the ground piont, reattach it, then try again. Oh checked out your video on the car almost hitting you. I drive 100 miles a day and over the past 20 years I've seen some crazy stuff out there. I got sideswiped in a tunnel right in front of a truck pulling a boat. We were ok, but the guy pulling the truck I think wanted to kick some ass on the guy who hit me as it scared the crap out of him. If we had jackknifed in front of him in the tunnel he would have been wearing that boat for a hat. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

Keith do you have any experience with a 1993 Nissan 4x4 V6 stalling when you start off, It acts just like you try to start off in 3rd gear of a manual shift but it's an automatic. Torque converter and transmission has been changed, but problem still persists. A couple of folks have suggested the ECM. Thanks for any advice.
@keithnoneya4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, if the ECM was acting normal before the transmission went nuts, then it's most likely not the ECM. Since it's an automatic I would check the INHIBITOR (PRNDL) switch alignment or condition of the wires on the side of the transmission. The switch tells the solenoids in the transmission what gear to be in except in Drive, then the ECM tells the transmission what gear to start in. If the wrong solenoid is selected, because of a broken wire, or the switch is slightly miss aligned, it will activate the wrong gear. Also the solenoid pacs, if old, sometimes stick and that can cause that problem too. You can try to override the ECM by manually selecting a gear to start out with on the gear selector. That should hint to whether its the transmission or the ECM. I would down load the manual online and go through the diagnostic steps. You can download the manual sections here: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.html It's totally free and they are actually pretty good and informative. The other problem could be the MAF sensor, if it goes bad it can cause the vehicle to stall, it's happened to me before. It's located on the air filter box outlet to that big flexible tube going to the throttle body. GENTLY clean it with and acid brush, and plug and unplug it a few times to clean the electrical contacts on it. Some of the sensors can be removed to expose the element so that it can be easily cleaned. There are two torque screws holding it on. If it is bad/dirty/intermittent wiring, you'll normally get a code 12 when checking the diagnostic codes. Hope that helps steer you in the right direction. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya PS small favor, give the video a thumbs up and let your other Nissan friends know about my Pathfinder repair videos. Keith

Hi Johnny, man I wish I had the answer for you. I know how important it is to get around. I would ask the folks who installed it, as I don't know how they work for sure. If you have no problems you should get 5 red and 5 green for a code of 55. Sounds like you could be in the wrong mode. Try putting the screw at the position it was at before you started the procedure. If you don't remember you can put it in the same position as mine is in the video and then drive it around. If you have a problem the code will pop up again. At least get it up to highway speeds and several stop and goes so the computer can get a good reading. Then try and read the code again. If you have a code it should show it in mode 3. Let me know how it goes. Keith

Thank you for this video. Question.... The battery has been disconnected to preserve battery life while we've been trying to get the 92 Pathfinder running. The vehicle will not start. Will crank. Advice from a mechanic told us to check some things- check for spark (yes we have it), it's not crankshaft sensor, then we were told to replace fuel pump (we did) and now there is no fuel pressure. So with no fuel pressure now (it had it before we replaced fuel pump) it surely will not start. We are confused. SO... the battery has been disconnected, as I was saying, and we tried this awesome trick you have here and we get a 55. Which is a NO MALFUNCTION. Can't be right as I see it. With the battery being disconnected, has it wiped the error record clean? Sure could use some help. Thanks!
@keithnoneya6 жыл бұрын
I don't believe the codes will be erased, but I really don't know for sure. The 55 is only on those systems that are monitored. If you don't have fuel pressure at the engine, pull the line further down to ensure the pump is running. If you have the 3.X engine I believe the fuel regulator is under the intake manifold in the back on the drivers side. I'ts a real bache to get to. If you want to make sure it's only fuel related poor a small amount of fuel in the throttle body and try and start it. If it runs for a few seconds then it's definitely fuel related. If you don't have the manual you may be able to find the factory manual for the 93 on line manual here: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.html Although it's not for the 92 it should be close enough to put you in the ball park. Once you've completed repairs erase the codes and then drive it a few miles then read the codes again. +Charles Smith Hey Charles I've had this very problem twice, about two years ago and a month ago. The first one was a loose connector on the MAF Sensor and the second one was a bad spark plug boot that was arching inside the valve cover. The first is fairly easy just check the connections or remove the MAF element and make sure it has some ohms across it. I don't remember the ohm value but you can find it in the Factory Service Manual Here: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.htmlThe spark plug boot is easy to, just pull them one at a time and the one that has no engine change is most likely the bad wire. Give each of them a good inspection, if you find one that has burn marks on it that's your problem. A set is about $60.00 bucks at the auto store but on line, amazon or eBay they're a lot cheaper.There are a lot of things that cause this problem but usually it's something simple: Here's some probable causes:1. Spark Wires or Spark Plugs.2. Distributor Cap and Rotor.3. Distributor Ignition Module.4. MAF sensor or wires.5. Fuel Regulator.6. Fuel Pump.7. Fuel Injector.8. ECM and a lot more. The best part is that the computer pops no codes, generally this means it's not a sensor but not always. Just do some simple inspections of connectors for corrosion, and make sure all your wires that go to ground are cleaned and reconnected. Drop me a line if you get some more info or need more help.Best Wishes and Blessings Keith

+Keith Noneya I've been meaning for awhile now to tell ya thank you for all your advice. I ended up giving it a full tune up part in due to it needed one and also in part to your recommendations. The 4th plug and been stuck in with electrical tape or something that overtime had melted and messed up the connection with the spark plug.

Wow some real maintenance there huh. If it works great but at least the mech should have come back later and fixed it correctly. I'm glad I was able to help, that's why I put these videos up. Thanks for the comment. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith

Keith Noneya hey I have a question I have a 95 pathfinder and when I get to 20 MPH I have to let go of the gas pedal and then press on it to speed up why does it do that?
@keithnoneya7 жыл бұрын
That is a very interesting question. I've never heard of that before. I suspect it's a sensor problem sending the computer incorrect readings. I would check the "TPS" Throttle Position Sensor. It directly controls the computers response to how much gas is injected into the cylinders. Of course check the computer codes in mode 3. In my video I show the seat out but that is not necessary you can just move the passenger seat all the war forward then you can easily access the diagnostic screw and lights, so make sure and check them. Mine has about 270,000 and it's still going strong. Have never done much to it other than O2 sensor, starter, water pump, belts and idler pulley. Oh I forgot I did put a radiator in it when the plastic broke near the cap, and some normal brake rotors and pads. Other than that it's been a great vehicle. Let me know what you find out. Also here's a link to the service manual: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.html Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith

Hi can you tell me, did you put the key on why doing this? thanks
@keithnoneya8 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I did not have the engine running when I did this test. You don't have to have the engine running in Mode 3 to check codes. You do have to have it running for the other Modes as they are for monitoring fuel mixtures and sensors. You can download your Pathfinder or D21 manual here: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.html After you choose the year, you want to download the EC section and that will tell you more about using the diagnostics in the computer. Hope this helps, feel free to ask anymore questions as needed. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith

Can I run the test without the check engine light on? If so, will the code be accurate? My light randomly comes on/off
@keithnoneya8 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay my apologies, I just saw your question when I was answering another question. Yes you can run it that way, all stored codes remain in the ECU until you erase them. You can find a free service manual here: www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-pathfinder-factory-service-manuals.html. You can use the part 2 of my Heated O2 sensor change video to erase the codes to find out which ones remain. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnOXl5SZgtSkpqM. At the end of my video go to time index 9:05 in the video link I just sent you. I hope this helps Jay, again please accept my apology as I didn't see your question until now. Sometimes for some reason I don't always get an alert when I get a question. If you need anymore help, please feel free to send me a question. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith

What ended up being the problem
@keithnoneya9 жыл бұрын
morrowdavid30 The Heated O2 Sensor was bad. The code 12 was from when I had pulled the MAF sensor plug off and put it back on, the wiring to it seems intermittent. By the way I found out that for my year Pathy you don't have to take the seat out or pull the top cover. It's visible from the back passenger seat if the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward.Best Wishes/Blessing Keith
