Alan Hale Jr seemed to be the 1 who "Played himself" the most. He always wore his captain's hat, & when he was on Andy Griffith, I believe he refereed to Barney Fife(Don Knots) as "Little, Buddy" which was transfered to Bob(Gilligan)Denver. It's hard to believe all the dudes are gone.
@bufnyfan13 жыл бұрын
it was well known that Mr. Hale would go and visit sick children in hospitals wearing his captain's hat and the shirt he wore on the show--Mr. Hale also had a semi-regular role on Gunsmoke (the show that actually bumped Gilligan's Island off the air after its 3rd season)
@marcstevens85763 жыл бұрын
Yes he did. He also called ALF "Little Buddy" in that awful '90's sitcom. I think he called everybody that because of his size. It wasn't intended for him to call Gilligan that, but, he said it so much, they added it to the script.

Back in '88 I took my mother back to DFW for her flight to STL. We were sitting at the gate when two men entered walking in from behind us. I saw them from behind and they sauntered off to get a drink and Man the one fellow wearing a Skippers hat had Alan Hale's profile and even his voice. I noticed other couples who had a better view smiling and pointing him out and I said, "Mom, that's the Skipper! I think he's on your flight!" Mom called me that night to let me know she had gotten Alen Hale's autograph. He was hired to do Boat shows in Dallas and STL. He had returned to the gate alone after I headed back to work and Mom slowly approached him and asked, "Mr. Hale can I have your autograph?" and they had a little chat. He was gone less than 18 months later at the age of 68. Mom said his personality was exactly as seen on the TV. Friendly, smiling, joking and giddy. Mom was a young 49 back then. Still here at 82. Out of everyone at the gate she was the first one to slowly walk over and chat with him. She got the ball rolling. Everybody likes the Skipper.

I am glad to see Tina Louise on this interview. I have all 3 seasons of GI and often think about this voluptuous beauty. I kinda thought today that people should leave this woman alone. All the remarks about Tina and her "attitude" were made by fans who were not present on the GI soundstage, but were mostly founded on hearsay. She was a professional and played her part well, and owes her sharp critics nothing. I'm glad we get to hear her side of the story.

Thankyou for bringing that up Clarence. Tina I think has been treated pretty unfairly over the years. But Bob Denver said it best, that once the miner details were cleared up he said that Tina was a total pro and the perfect Ginger. :) I don't want to take anything away from Judith Baldwin. She is a very talented actress. But without Tina Louise playing the role the character of Ginger Grant was just not quite the same. I've read Russell Johnson's (Professor) book on the Series and it was very informative. Most of them didn't think the series was even going to last one season and they were not-at the time-too enamored with it. The exceptions were Russell and Alan Hale, who had been in the business long enough to appreciate the steady paycheck. By the third season they'd gotten over the hump and were starting to enjoy working on the show and with each other, even Tina Louise-who had been a major griper early on. All were looking forward to that 4th season, but the show got cancelled suddenly after they broke up following the 3rd season. Life is like that for everyone, you never know a good thing until you don't have it anymore. Looking back all the Castaways would love to go back and do it again, but at the time some of them took it for granted. Enjoy every minute folks, they never come back once they're gone.
@hellogoodbye40612 жыл бұрын
The show did indeed get cancelled suddenly, as the show had been renewed but once the network's wife heard that Gunsmoke was going to be cancelled, she objected and hubby put it back into the lineup, so two half-hour shows had to go to make room. Gilligan's Island, alas, was one of the two.

Gilligan's island something about that island
@greglawrence13146 жыл бұрын
It was much greener and more colorful (and cleaner and more livable) than an actual island would be. Plus, it would have had to have been huge to have had all the cliffs, mountains, caves, unexplored territory, and extra-castaway inhabitants that were seen on the show. Not to mention a huge volcano that no one knew about (until it was about to erupt).

My Dad had Bonanza on one time. He watches old shows all the time and Dawn Wells was in it as a Indian! Dawn Wells was also arrested in 2008 having pot in her car. She was 69 years old at the time and how ironic for her to spend 3 hours in jail! :-)
@amkaen10 жыл бұрын
According to Ms. Wells, it wasn't her car. If I understand correctly, the owner loaned it to her, and then admitted to authorities that the marijuana was his.

(LOL) SERIOUSLY???? Did Bob Denver mess up her chances to get bailed out? Alan Hale smacks him on the head and then Tina Louise seduces the judge...but sshe doesn't KISS him, she just flirts, by touch...you know.

Kathy Lee did an awesome job with this interview! Now, the age old answer of why Tina Louise didn't appear in the made for TV Movies, of GI, has been answered. As she said herself, it was a conflict of interest with her pursuing more dramatic roles .. And if she did not want to be associated with GI after the series was over, as rumor has it, she would have blown everyone off for the reunion. Same thing with Larry Hagman, when I dream of Jeannie was made into a movie for TV. He was working on "Dallas" at the time, and wasn't able to.
@greglawrence13146 жыл бұрын
She appeared on Dallas with Larry Hagman the same year the first reunion movie aired. According to Sherwood Schwartz, Tina Louise was willing to appear in the reunion movie but demanded way too much money. It's possible she did that to get out of doing the movie without flat out refusing to do so, who knows?

@Marty McFly II Hagman would've merited the paycheck though.

Ginger DID kiss Gilligan in the "jetback" episode, and also she kissed the professor when they were making the movie to get them off the island.
@rvpstudiosstudios10287 жыл бұрын
Yeah..I know. I think Ginger (aka Tina Louise) has amnesia! I am surprised NO ONE from the cast corrected her..ESPECIALLY the professor...as Thurston Howell III put it at the time of THAT MINUTE kiss...it’s A DOOZIE!!!!”

This aired a year and a half after the final reunion movie. The one that unfortunately featured the Harlem Globetrotters and robots. The network offered Sherwood the chance to do a new weekly Gilligan's series after the success of the first 1978 reunion movie, but he turned it down. He thought the cast was too old and that he didn't have enough stories he wanted to tell. He agreed to do one reunion movie a year instead. But the ratings of those quickly declined. If he didn't have enough good ideas for three movies, I have a feeling a new series would have declined in the ratings just as much as the movies did. Jim Backus would've had to bow out due to his health after a season or two, which in addition to the fake Ginger, would've caused problems for the series.
