Had no idea who he was but my Dad was having a drink with him at the bar and when I went over to get more nickles for the games my Dad said "Son this is Mr. Hale". I just said something like hi or nice to meet you. Then my Dad said "He's the Skipper on Gilligan's Island". Mr. Hale looked at me and said "How many nickles do you need little buddy?". I was in the second grade when Gilligan's Island debuted. I have fond memories of my dad and I watching it. My mother thought it was ridiculous but my dad loved it. He loved slapstick. Then, as a teenager, I remember watching the reruns. So nice to take a trip back to a much simpler time! I loved growing up in the sixties.

This is such a wonderful documentary. I had seen it twice before (years ago), and I was so happy to stumble across it again. Gilligan's Island was already in syndicated reruns years before I started watching it as a child, but it has always held a special place in my heart. I had the great pleasure and privilege of meeting Dawn Wells in person back in 2005, and she truly was "Mary Ann". You couldn't have asked for a sweeter, kinder, more ebullient soul. It's hard to believe there is only one "castaway" (Tina Louise) who is still with us. However, the wonderful legacy of laughter that those 7 people and genius creator Sherwood Schwartz left behind ensures that none of them will ever truly leave us--and that is something for which I will always be very grateful.

Did you notice that there were not too many Gilligan's Planet cartoon episodes compared to what's it compared to all of other cartoon shows? What I just didn't tell you is that I've added one extra character for the Gilligan's Planet cartoon series since the former Newsweek magazine newsreporter John Leland has insulted Professor Roy Hinckley just for not having a roommate. That extra character is the long, straight, white blonde hair crystal blue eye 5 ft. 6 black American woman named Teresa Dortch. She's the size of an Olympic gymnastics athlete. My only brush with a celebrity was when Alan Hale Jr. hugged my mother when she was expecting me. Dawn Wells was such lovely soul. Rather than be bitter for being typecast, she truly embraced the persona and made it her own. I know it may have been solely for public consumption, but unlike Tina Louise, she never complained about it. She never regretted it.. She was truly my adolescent crush. Such a lovely person.

Thank you so much for this touching and informational tribute to a Show I loved and my kids loved in reruns. One of my sons taped every episode, one night he and I got so sick that we camped out on the couch together watching those reruns all night, it really helped us get through a rough night. He still, like me, loves Gilligan’s Island. We loved you all and Thank You for all the laughs. Peace and Love to you all and especially to the man who created the show and fought for it. ❤️✨💫🙏

I did not know anything about this documentary until tonight 8/25/2021. I thought is was wonderful. I always loved the show. I also always wondered if you guys really become like family. It seems you guys did. That is what I like to hear. I like to hear it about any show that have seasons and seasons of episodes and episodes. I did get the feeling that Tina, the one who played Ginger, was embarrassed and didn’t want to have anything to do with anyone. Seemed to not want to admit to her fans that she Ginger after her contract was up. She even said it and that was so sad. This was a good family show that brought lots and lots of laughs. I still love watching the reruns when I happen to find them.

I really enjoyed the show when I was a kid. I turned 10 the year it debuted. As it was not popular with my parents, it was fortunate that we had a second TV in the basement. The idea of being stranded on a desert island was appealing to many kids--just without having to deal with any of the problems! We got way for about a 30-minute tour before crashing back down to earth! The show provided escapism for many of us, and I suspect that that as part of it's appeal. I can't imagine anyone who was not part of that cast replacing them either! Thanks for doing the documentary! Thanks to the all the people who were in it and sometimes had to put up with some major discomforts, like Bob Denver! I think that all of you should have gotten residuals! Those of you who didn't got cheated IMO! BTW, as I watch and listen, it appears that Bob was trying hard to ensure that his colleagues got equal billing with him. It really impresses me that he was such a fair play guy, but perhaps it shouldn't be surprising!

That was a great little documentary from 23 years ago. Of the original cast, only Tina Louise is still alive (age 89) as Feb 2024. Like most other kids in the 1970s I watched this show and loved it. It was silly but accessible and funny. And well ahead of its time: there are now many shows that are equally silly and escapist, helping people relax and laugh despite the hardship and sorrows of life.

This was very well done, nothing exaggerated just fun information & facts about the people & show. As a young kid I watched every original episode & became a big fan. Back then I could never understand why every rescue failed, so I kept watching each week, waiting to see if they would be successful on the next episode. Of course at that young age I didn't realize "permanent shipwreck" was the premise of the ongoing storyline. It's sad that most all have passed on but what wonderful memories we all share. I somehow missed this when it originally aired so many years ago, so thanks for the upload!

Wow, thanks for this, I've never seen it until now. So much tears of joy and sorrow watching this. I love how this documentary has the right Gillian's Island tone to it, and how it wasn't mean or anything. Despite the issues Tina had with the character Ginger and the show, this documentary still paid fair tribute to her. I loved how they had her re-enactment actress come in at the end to give her epilogue. It's a pity how the actors didn't get rich from the show, I only hope the love from the fans was enough to offset this. This documentary didn't mention the Gilligan's Island and Gilligan's Planet cartoon though, I have to watch those sometime. From what I understand the original actors except Tina did the voice acting for those cartoons.
