Curt Park I've seen it happen with all kinds of amplifiers and I've seen that happen with no amplifiers LOL. And no way am I saying it didn't happen. You just can't hate a whole company because of that incident. I mean I'm sure the insurance paid for it. It still sucks I know. These are tried-and-true amps because ds18 has been using them for a while now. You just will pay a lot less for them with the Dual name on them because Walmart has recruited these amps. I just hope the bigger monoblocks come next!

Ryan! Awesome video and I knew this little guy would not disappoint! I'm so glad you developed this channel as it helps 90% of us that are on a budget, find a quality piece of electronics for a deal. Like you, I'm glad Walmart teamed up with Dual to obviously fund this amp build. You can find Dual's version on their website but for almost 3 times the cost. The best part is that Walmart sells a 2 year warranty that is a no questions asked in store swappable plan that's $6 for the 2 channel and $8 for the 4 channel. No where else offers this! You can run a set of components and a sub easily off of this amp. Even rear speakers (no fading) and a set of smaller efficient subs. Or for $150 plus tax, add the 2 channel for a complete, great sounding, front rear sub setup! I cannot wait to get my lab aka truck set up so I can test these plus other budget gems for you against some of the best sound quality amplifiers out there! Thanks again for all you do Ryan. We all appreciate you!

Definitely a budget gem.

There isnt really any reason why these amps shouldnt become the industry standard when it comes to mini budget amps. They look great and put out nice power. I wouldnt expect the sound quality out of them like a zapco would have or anything but it helps provide a possible nice upgrade over almost any factory system.

This amp is a little monster! It can EASILY tolerate anywhere from 8.5 to 16.8 VDC for power (although; 8.5 volts DC isn't recommended!) Voltage range should be 12.5 to 15 VDC. It does put out: 96 W at 8 ohms x 4 or 190 W at 8 ohms bridged x 2. 185 W at 4 ohms x 4 or 345 W at 4 ohms bridged x 2. Not sure why they say you can only bridge 2 channels, but, I've bridged channels 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and I ahd no problems. The efficiency is a bit low (57% - 65%) for a class D amp, but for $85; it's a hell of a deal! On a score from 0 to 10; It gets a impressive 9.0 out of 10. Great job Dual!!!

I think, somewhere along the line, Dual started to take their car audio stuff more seriously. I had one of their 600W amps coupled with their 12" sub for about a year, and it sounded pretty good for the price. Wound up getting something a little better sounding, and gave the Dual setup to my mother since she just wanted a small amount of extra bass. Definitely a great entry into car audio. Right now, I'm rocking one of their head units because I wanted bluetooth. Sounds just fine, and doesn't distort when I turn it up all the way. Granted, I keep it on flat and just let my sub do the rest of the work.

3 weeks ago I bought and installed this amp in my vehicle. It's pushing four 6.5 Infinity coaxials. Let me tell you, that little shit of an amp can power my speakers sooo good. Watched this video and headed straight to Walmart. I highly recommend.

James Brough yea I have the Sony Mex XB100BT so its 2ohm stable. Dyno at 72rms. I wasnt really worried about the Kickers being underpowered I'm gonna replace all of them with RF 6x8 in front doors an 4 6x9 in rear all 2 way. As far as the Dual goes I was being lazy today lol an didnt wanna run all that rca cable cause I have 3 sets of pre outs. So I daisy chained it from my mono amp. Not really digging it like that lol. HPF at about 80hz but it sucks. Cause if I turn of my mono amp the 4 channel turns off too lol an it's literally all bass lol unless I'm doing something wrong lol so when I'm not being lazy an get up the energy to run the cables I'll come back an let you know but I have some experience with these. I convinced my friend to buy one an showed him this vid an he bought it wired it all up an it does sound great. Hes doin 6 speakers as well in a MGM same set up as mine different subs but it sounds great.

It is a little more sterile than the Arc, but for 89.00 you wont find anything better. Its not going to replace an Arc, Zapco, JL, etc. but It will do the job. just throwing in an update. i have both the 4 and 2 channel class D amps for over a year in two different cars. they haven't blown and i'm still happy with them. they run cool in hot climate (CA). they are great for subs. but they stay on subwoofer duty. i tried them on full range and was disappointed. sound is ok at low volume but then your favorite song comes on and you crank it up and you hit that 10% distortion and blah... the experience just gets wrecked lol. they sound good at high power on subs. but on full range they can be pretty harsh. they also have pretty loud hiss on tweeters. these amps are awesome for the price if used on subwoofer. but if you like loud and clear on your highs, you will be disappointed.

FYI: I own this and a 2 channel version. I've tired running 2 4ohm 6.5 component speakers at 2 ohms on one channel and get sound degradation after about 25-30 minutes of playing. Will end up having to change the wiring configuration. Its rated to do 2ohm a channel but it really doesn't like it.

Just picked one of these up secondhand and I can attest to their long term durability. The guy I got it from said it worked great most of the time but when he really cranked it up it would shut down on him. He ran it this way for several months and got bored with it and pulled his system out. This guy is not tech savvy and we came to find out he was running two infinity reference DVC 12"s with the coils paralleled (so that's 2 ohms) and bridged the amp. That means each of the 4 channels was running at 1ohm, although he did not have the subs in the correct enclosure so the box rise must have been insane. Anyway I have been running this amp for a few days now (hooked up PROPERLY of course) and it hasn't missed a beat. Keep in mind these are IC amps just like the project amps you can get on Amazon or Ebay. The difference here is that the Dual gives you a LEGIT POWER SUPPLY matched to the chip and that is why they perform so well. The chip itself has alot of failsafes built in, and I am guessing that is why it survived the above mentioned abuse. These are great daily driver amps.

Dual actually offers a 2 channel and 4 channel amp on their website but with a different paint job. The price is almost doubled. Also these are the same exact, again exact, amps that DS 18 uses for their Candy model lineup. They have been available for years and have great reliability and sound reviews. They also offer several models that have a lot more power and I can only hope that Walmart buys some of these with their buying power and also them in a lower price along with the ability to get an extended warranty. There's not me amplifiers companies have this quality that in case of a failure where you can walk in and swap it out. Not mail it in that your expense, wait for a tech to examine it, determine if it's actually a warranty claim, and then either get back to you or send you out another one. That alone is worth more money but even with the warranty they are cheaper than the exact same amps with just another decal on them. Imagine being at a show and and amplifier shuts down. You have the ability to have another one or two with you because of the price or simply go to 1 of the few Walmarts around ... sarcasm... and slap another one in minutes. Even seconds because of the great design they have. I wish people would just see this nice piece of electronics for what it is and what it does and not for where it's sold. That type of ape brained mentality is uncomprehendable. If it bothers you that much, buy a can of Plasti Dip and cover the whole thing except the ventilation Grill of course and get you one of your decals from your favorite Amplifier company that never has failures and makes their boards exclusively for their amps and is not used in any other brands. Spoiler alert! There's very few!

Great job as always Ryan. Considering this amp for a budget system i’m putting together for my son. The kid is hard on amplifiers so my only concern is longevity. With the amp being so small, is there enough metal to dissipate the heat from sustained high volume playing? At $89 the only problem in replacing it is the hassle of installing it since its going under a front seat.

Also, a heads up... I think this is discontinued. Looking on Dual's site they have two other mini series amps (a DA6002D and a DA10004D) but the fusing on them is 25A which begs the question on whether they will perform. Assuming 14.4V * 25 at around 75% efficiency I'd expect about 300-350W out of it.
@recon4406 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see. I live in Canada and I have not seen these on the shelves. Given Walmart's size it makes sense to distribute an exclusive model a target cost. Now if only Costco can work up a deal with Rockford Fosgate to provide to Power series amps at a smokin' price.

like i stated in previous video. I stand behind the dual amps. Have had nothing but great results with them. Never had the head-units i was iffy on those. Thanks dual for not making me looking like an idiot lol

Seriously, I was not expecting that, and I think that other experienced audio enthusiasts also weren't... I'd run it, but just hide it out of sight so people don't know that I'm using.

i guess the only question i really have, cause i have never used them, what is the difference between using high inputs and rca inputs?
@gantz4u4 жыл бұрын
RCA is low input and recommended for better performance. High input is for head units that dont have the RCA outputs, so high input is your only option.

Would you rather have an amp that doesn't make rated power and 2 out of 10 only fails? It's like no one can be satisfied. This is the second amplifier this company makes that has been Dyno tested and makes more than rated power. Which is extremely rare these days. But since it's a more inexpensive amplifier than the one someone paid for, it can't possibly be true or be reliable because that someone is way more intelligent then to get duped over! And since Walmart sells it, not manufacturers it, it can't be a good amp even though it makes great power for the price and was totally honest with it specs. We're most amplifiers fail and get criticized. And when it comes to reliability, there's very popular amplifiers that died on the dyno. Amplifiers that cost 5 * this. So if price equals reliability why does that happen and has not happened to these two amplifiers that are still continually being? An amp Dyno is one of the most strenuous tests an amp can go through, even if it's for just one pass because it's playing one difficult frequency for several seconds making full power. 90% of the time the amplifier never reaches full power because music changes frequency so often.

Now if Dual can make an inexpensive in-dash 7'' or 8'' GPS unit with Google Maps, voice command, 3 5V pre-outs, XM, BT, HDMI, etc, etc....& I'll become very interested in the brand.

I like your videos, especially the budget stuff since I'm poor... I just wish that on both the 82D and the 84D, you had made more comment about the sound quality in various modes rather than just the numbers. Since they're still available I'm still considering buying. Yes, I know that I need to listen with my own ears and speakers and decide for myself, but it would be nice to hear a more detailed comment from you other than just "it sounds pretty good", although it does kinda seem like a fairly safe bet either way. Good for bass, good for high end, good for satellites, good for full range, good for nothing... is what I'd like to know. The "it's a gem" comment does give some insight, but all you really talk are numbers, and you can call me greedy for your opinion, but since I presume that you post your reviews to help others make purchase decisions on, I'm letting you know that I'd like to know more. Although many will argue it, I'm sure you know that numbers don't tell everything. I really like cheap stuff that performs better than expected. I'm still a big fan of the cheap Panasonic RP-HT21 headphones for what they deliver compared to their cost, as well as the Lepai 2020A+, and I'd love to have a small car amp that delivered on the same par. And no, those items are not my opinion of high-end equipment by any stretch, but they're not bad. I am what is now considered to be "old-school", and though my old-school home system is rather big, it would still rock a fair sized indoor venue. Anyway, thanks for testing things that nobody else seems to want to, and giving a fair review. Keep up the good work. Thanks :-)
