I bought a used Kenwood Excelon X801-5 for $80 in mint condition instead. Needed something small and wanted to go new for warranty purposes etc but the harness hookup on the Skar made it a no go. The Kenwood sounds great and is pretty small so aside from saving over $125 and not having warranty I don't think I lost out on anything tbh. Pretty sure the Kenwood will last longer too, imo.

Awesome channel as always, just wondering if you could do a segment on thd and snr on these multichannels and demonstrate why these numbers are important when running your highs. Maybe do a segment on why any amp that has crossovers that only filters up to 500 hz arent the best for running tweeters, as a lot of guys are going pro audio for their highs , and cant understand why they keep popping tweeters or have poor sound quality even with the little capacitor crossovers on the tweeters. That would also be a good video on its own, showing everyone what pro audio mids and highs sound good, because there is so many that sound like garbadge compared to the coaxials and components that we were used to running back in the nineties.

Somebody has got to do a sound qaulity review on these micro amps. Big D has a distortion meter. Or some way to weed out the trash amps. Watts on the dyno is one thing. At the 7 minute mark Sam described this amps internals. Can you do a compare of the Skar RP-series circuitry to this budget series SK-M series maybe with Sam pointing out any upgraded parts/ design? The RP-600.5 is 5 watts more power in the CH 1-4 but the sub power at 2 ohm is very different. Only $20 separate these amps and again what is on the inside would be very helpful. All of your videos are well presented and clear, keep it up! Sharing with everyone!

Thanks for this review. Made a deal last year to sell my current system to a friend, with plans to upgrade to newer more powerful amps.... then Covid-19..... out of work, couldn't afford what I wanted, but at LEAST wanted an amp to replace the 12,000 watts that I was getting rid of (ouch!) Bought this amp off of eBay as it was not in stock in Amazon. Got it yesterday and installed it in my vehicle. Its powering two 6 1/2's per front door wired at 2 ohms, one 6 1/2 per rear door at 4 ohms, and one 10" sub at two ohms, it does get pretty warm, but it has enough power to keep me satisfied until I can afford to go bigger. Plus, I am technically a senior citizen, and not sure if I want to go that big anymore.... not cause it's too loud, the strain on my body installing all that gear, and building and installing three to four hundred pound subwoofer enclosures now has me laid up for a few days of recovery....🤣 Update.... the one thing I have noticed about this amp is that it has a pretty noticeable turn on/off pop that is fairly annoying. Also this amp should have 4 gauge power inputs.

Dude i just bought this amp in thoughts I'd run all my factory highs im replacing with skar audio sk and rp 6x9s in doors, tl 3.5s in dash ×3, 3.5 super tweets in head liner ×2, and my 2 evl dual 2 ohm 6.5s under seat sub box mod....( posted pics in review page at skar.com) and my wonderful 3rd child my skar zvx 18 d1 on its nasty lil buddy the taramps bass 1200. Im so happy to see the amp dyno of this amp and i just happened to run across your rp 2k video too, my battle plan was 2 of those strapped to replace the taramps now that big Z is broken in!!! Im so fudging happy i cant cuss!!
@ShinobiXRevived4 жыл бұрын
My biggest nitpick with this amp is the fact that the power and ground inputs are 8 gauge. If the amp is 900 Watts, it's not 100% efficient so round that up to 1000 watts. You shouldn't use 8 gauge if youre running the wires all the way to the trunk for 1000 watts. The amperage on that is too high for 8 gauge. I guess you could do it but that makes me question them the fact that they didn't put 4 gauge power/ground inputs.

Skar needs to make profit, make margins, price points, sell what market can bare & meet supply & demand. 99% of electronic failures is by consumers abuse, neglect, INSTALLATIONS & ignorance. Installed correctly & used properly electronics will last passed warranties. & like Big D says NEVER mount a fragile amp, xover, dsp, on hostile environment like a booming VIBRATING subwoofer box. Looks like a heckuva deal, although I question the sq of the four channel section when you're pushing the sub channel hard. If they're sharing the same power supply something will have to be compromised when the power supply heats up. Powering four MB Quart 6x8s off two channels @2ohms from 125Hz and up, one Skar IX 8 off two channels bridged @4ohms from 40 to 125Hz bandpassed, and one Rockville K6 10 off the 5th channel @2ohms below 40Hz. Using the dsp in my Pioneer DEH-S5120BT. I added the 8 in a 0.45 cube flat box behind the driver's seat so I could remove the 10 when I needed to stuff passengers or freight in the cab and still have a bit of bass. Rangers aren't exactly spacious. The amp fits perfectly behind the driver's side jumpseat. Its impressed the hell outta me. Yeah, it does get warm at that one spot on the input side, but it's nothing a small cpu fan didn't fix. Still sucks to know it's a hardware flaw. Ah well... Ima bang it til it breaks.🤘👍

160$ isn't bad! Its tiny, and doesnt have angled power inputs thankfully. But I'll say, if you can afford 40$ more, the pioneer d9705 is a phenomenal 5 channel I use. Powers a 12" alpine type x beautifully. Plus you only need 2 rcas, to power all 5 channels

Yeah that Pioneer is a nice 5ch

I may need to switch to skar. My 20 year old amps are to bulky for 800 watts. I want 2 4 channels and 2 mono amps.

I know you get a lot of these requests. I saw in one of your videos you used the Sony DSP amp. Any chance you have numbers on them. I was considering purchasing one but had a concern on its main channel output. From what ive heard usually Sony Amps just barely make their rated powers.

I have this very amp and it works good... But it has a big cooling problem. Especially when hot out. It would go into protect mode after a bit of really hitting on it. I had to run a 12v fan off the remote and it's been good since!

Big D! There's a typo in your output description. It should read 85 x 4 at 2 ohms. However, you listed it at 4 ohms.
@wal4 жыл бұрын
It’s rated 85x4 at 2 ohms and 55x4 at 4 ohms

@@wal Thank you for all the videos you make. I appreciate the testing you do as well as your opinion as to the quality of the circuit boards. I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy Big D!

“Amp Guts and Chicken Butts”🤣🤣🤣 it’s crazy how small these 5 channels are! I had a Memphis 1100.5 and it was huge and it was only a little more powerful!

Can you test the rp600.5 as well. It seems as though the SK-M9005D has less features but puts out more power than the larger one according to Skar Audio test. For example, you got 631 dynamically @ 2ohm with the SK-M9005D but the RP-600.5 only did 472 dynamically @ 1 Ohm.

Please dyno the Infinity Kappa K5. I just bought 2 the other day super cheap on Amazon to run my front stage and would like to know how much power they put out. I would also like to know if they can run without the wired bluetooth remote connected. Thanks and keep up the awesome videos!

Can I play the 4 channels at 4 ohms and the sub channel at 2 ohms?

Yes
@freecake14 жыл бұрын
didn't you use to calculate efficiency for each amp at each resistance? did you stop doing that? or did I just overlook it in this video?
@wal4 жыл бұрын
With 5ch amps it’s more difficult as I’m not measuring each channel during the test for power output
