Hi Luke , I wanted to say really thank you for your serious approach to teaching it by story telling in English , for the man ( I) who has been struggling to find a job for 2 years in a row and facing a failure every time it’s fantastic therapy I would say . Phew , how I am tired of it , graduated nearly 2 years ago and still can’t find a job for which I would wake up with “can’t waiting for “ start my lovely working day , 2 years 146 rejection mails . But if anyone in the same situation as me , pls don’t be upset , just keep going , if it won’t working out at least you would know that you had been trying 😢

I am an Indian living in Kerala State, India. English is my third language. Your teaching is excellent. I learn English through your lessons. Unlike other English speakers, you speak legibly and I can understand your speech well. Thanks Thomas V. A.

Hi Luke, I don’t know if you’ll see this, but the timing of this podcast couldn’t be more perfect. I was born with a speech impediment (a stammer) and have always struggled to speak. In 2017, I moved to England without knowing any English at all. Due to my condition and being an extremely introverted person, I didn’t attend an English academy to learn the language-I was afraid people wouldn’t understand me, as has often been the case. Instead, I taught myself English through your videos, films, and series. I’ve mimicked everything you say in your videos, repeating it aloud, and I’ve watched nearly every one of them. I also love books, and reading aloud every day has helped me immensely in my learning. English is my third language, and I can’t thank you enough for your work. God bless you! P.S. Your teaching style is amazing-less grammar rules and more natural conversation. I love it! Jajaja.

As a speech therapist, I was very curious to see how this episode would deal with the stuttering issue. And I am impressed. Good educational work! The episode really shows what it is like to live with dysfluency and does away with prejudices and misdiagnoses. The belief that stuttering is psychological is unfortunately still widespread. But listening to the end was difficult because I lacked a hopeful outlook. There are helpful and evaluated therapies and people who stammer don't have to miss out on fulfilling careers. Nevertheless it was an interesting episode!

Thank you very much for the video! I think that person should've warned people in advance about their stammering speaking on the phone wirh some short phrase. People usually understand this kind of problems. If the clerk at the shop had been warned he would've been more patient and helpful, I'm sure. He just thought the line really cut off that's why he hung up. Actually this video is very helpful to struggle with your nervousness. I feel overnervous having a job interview without any stammering, But that person having this.. is just a hero! The story brought me to tears at times. Luke, you really chose not an easy story. But your way of telling the story, your emotionality makes all of these real and live. Thank you again!

After overthinking my comment on this episode and reading Ally’s response, I feel the need to share an additional thought. In my “professional enthusiasm”, I failed to fully appreciate the author's engagement and Luke’s thoughtful and nuanced introduction to this sensitive topic. What I wanted to say is this: If you are dealing with a stammer, don’t give up on your dreams. Don’t stop looking for a qualified therapist! You can also find a partner and friends who appreciate you, as well as a job that matches your talents. Depending on which country you live in, it may be more difficult to find the right support, but it is possible. You could even become a famous actor, or a pioneer of speech therapy like Van Riper. Maybe not a king like George VI-but who would want that, anyway?

Eventhough Lewis Capaldi suffers from the Tourette syndrome, he has become a great singer. I know it's different from the stutter affection you are talking about. I watched a movie about an American young man who became a teacher in spite of the tourette syndrome. His students got used to it. And I have seen several films about autistic people who got jobs. And so on and so forth. They were all based on true events. I hope that if you stammer or stutter, you will have enough self confidence to surpass your affection and become optimistic enough to live a happy life. You sure have many qualities that people love.
