@OcDmn5 жыл бұрын

@KyussTheWalkingWorm4 жыл бұрын
No. The lock is orders of magnitude heavier than the bullets. The transfer of momentum only wastes a small fraction of the energy. Also, "green tip" M855 is actually a terrible armor penetrator. The steel core is too soft to work like a traditional penetrator, and the lower velocity severely reduces its ability to damage hardened steel. High-velocity lead core rounds like M193 are actually far more effective against steel. Plenty of videos demonstrating this on youtube. Steel is very velocity-sensitive. Once the projectile starts going above 3100 fps the damage sustained by the metal increases dramatically. (ranges banning steel core ammo because of "target damage" are irrational. M193 and varminting loads chew the fuck out of targets, M855 does much less. Though the latter can still be a concern because it's a sparking hazard) If you wanna defeat steel, you got three options: AP rounds with a proper hardened penetrator, extremely high velocity rounds, or rounds large enough to deform it until failure. All three make a distinctly different kind of hole.

@steampunkskunk36385 жыл бұрын
The issue is battery powered angle grinders exist. That chain and shackle are tough and would likely chew through an entire cutting blade (cost $1) but would last 1-2 mins tops. This is why most high security doors secured by a padlock have shields over the shackle and lock so you can't get a grinder in there.
@ScottKenny19785 жыл бұрын
If someone is doing major league destructive entry, you need a lock capable of resisting detcord and other explosives. Not to mention I still think LPL and Bill are doing the lockbreaking wrong, should be smacking the top of the lock with the bullet. Locking lugs versus .45ACP, the .45 usually wins. And that's not counting those 400gr frangible breaching slugs they make for shotguns.

If you want to bust a lock with a gun, 12ga is the way to do it, and by shooting "down" on the side the hasp connects to. Even cheap Master locks will hold up to a few rounds the way you were shooting it. Sill impressive that it took a lot of shots, but not the ideal way to test forced entry with a firearm.
@ByrdmanAero5 жыл бұрын
Doing that is pretty dangerous though. Spalling/ricochet would be a major concern that close. That's why they were shooting at 100 yards (generally considered safe distance when shooting at metal target). Unless you built a Mythbusters style test rig I would't bother.
@chopinbloc5 жыл бұрын
@@ByrdmanAero No, it's common to shoot steel targets with shotguns in competition at ranges as close as 25 yards. But you're right that they would need to perform the task with a little bit of care. You wouldn't want to be right next to it. Three or four sandbags and a bit of string is all you really need to do it safely.
@ByrdmanAero5 жыл бұрын
@@chopinbloc You need to add some caveats to that statement. In most competitive shooting, ammo restrictions apply. No green tip, no tungsten AP, no incendiary, ect. In the video they started with green tip and moved to tungsten. Shotgun slugs and shot must be lead only, no steel as well. And while most (if not all) steel target manufacturers will tell you a minimum of 100 yards (or 2800 fps estimated projectile velocity) for safe shooting, its not 100% necessary. Shooting closer (and faster) than that causes pitting and erosion to the target surface, making ricochets more likely as the surface is now irregular. When the surface is smoother, its possible to control the deflection (if any) of the rounds when the plate is struck (such as a slight downward angle). For a 3 gun competition, they're likely replacing the targets regularly due to the wear.

Tie a whole lot of these together in an array, and you've got yourself a nice piece of armored chainmail. Not that you'd be able to move around with it, but you'd be pretty damn bullet-proof!

This is definitely one of those cases where you're better off picking the lock instead of blasting it apart! Impressive lock there! I have to wonder why it's a Squire and not a Knight!

You two are a very good shot! I've been hunting since I have been 10yrs old and I'm 39yrs old now. Some of the locks you two shoot are small and you keep shooting before the lock even stops moving. It's hard to hit a moving Target that's still moving as much as some of the smaller locks especially at 100 yards.

I'm more impressed with the grouping on a moving target than the locks strength. We gotta get you out in a duck blind.

Wow, that's crazy. I would love to see a follow up, showing exactly how much damage there is. Plus take it back ut to the range and hit it with something even larger.

I'm impressed with how good you guys got at hitting a swinging lock.
@baselmhamed21455 жыл бұрын
I think most of the reason the lock survived that well is because a lot of energy is wasted as the lock swings away from the path of the bullets . maybe you could have done a lot more damage faster if the lock had something like a wall behind it. either way, this thing is tough XD
@adamwest87115 жыл бұрын

Does the swinging action of the lock absorb much of the power, surely that's wasted energy ??
