Basia is without doubt one of the greatest vocalists I've heard in my half century. Even though I was struck by her vocals with Matt Bianco, I'm surprised no one really followed her solo career. Her album, Time And Tide is still one I play twice a week. She makes me shiver, her vocals are haunting and mesmerising. I love her so much. I am waiting for the right moment to see her live performing again. Hopefully soon

She’s pretty wonderful, I agree. One of my top 5 all-time favorite female vocalists for sure. I’ll never understand how she’s never gotten the recognition she so richly deserves and has pretty much flown under the radar among the masses. But what do the masses know, anyway?!?

I saw Basia for the first time in this tour, when she was supporting Billy Ocean, in the summer of 1988. I then hounded my local record shop for weeks until they finally got in her first album.... Superb stuff!!

I am from the US and was bumming around Great Britain that summer and noticed a sign in Scotland promoting the Billy Ocean tour with mention that Basia was the opening act. I took the train down to Leicester and walked over to DeMontfert Hall mid afternoon. I meant a lady outside who was a Billy Ocean groupie. She knew all of the people in his band and apparently they knew her also. I had heard Basia's song "Astrud" months earlier in the US and knew who Astrud was in the song. Astrud Gilberto from Brazil. This lady left and got message to Basia that there was this guy outside who had come all the way from the US to hear her. I had no idea this was going on and sure enough here come this lady and Basia. A wonderful conversation. Danny White, her keyboard player also came out. Have a listen to "Astrud" who is "The Girl from Ipanema" in that song.

Cool thing is that the lady pronounced Basia's surname almost properly.

She needn't have strained herself so much b/c as a singer Basia had chosen to be known as...Basia full stop. When journalists interviewed Sting, Sade, Prince, Madonna, Cher or Adele, they didn't mention their family names.

of course a polish singer wouldn't dare to have a nickname like madonna or billy idol. she needs to take the west by storm in the name of basia trzetrzelewska

Are you being critical of that? I don't quite understand. Do you think it's wrong to use your own name?

@@thys5118 it seems that she's a bit condescending, especially by the end. She makes her feel like an outsider/immigrant etc. She questions the legality of her emigration. And even before, she questions her potential for fame, by undermining her success in the UK. In fact, if you get to know a lot of brits... they're all like that, even when they travel abroad. classist, xenophobic and collonial as f*ck. pozdr :)
