I suspect that Apple are doing something in iPadOS to ensure near performance parity between the two different spec models as to not make a noticeable difference and create a “high tier and low tier” iPad Pro problem as that would not play out well with buyers over time. That is no doubt why they only sell it as a storage upgrade and not as a CPU core and RAM upgrade too. Yes they mention it in the tech specs as they should but they don’t try and sell it as a “higher spec” model with an extra CPU core and double the RAM which is why those differences are not mentioned on the order page only in the tech specs. Some may argue Apple is "ripping off" certain storage option buyers but I don't see it that way as they make no claims *anywhere* that the 1 or 2TB models with the extra CPU core and double the RAM will perform any better. They make it very clear you're buying more storage only when you're on that order page and can select the storage amount you want. Strange I agree but I don't think Apple are being deceptive. Whatever iPad you buy you are getting the same overall performance.

Yes, a single NAND module is available for 256GB versus two for 512GB and higher.

Confirmed, Read speed same at 1TB, Write was actually quicker when I tested

I was confused I was just buying a 1TB it’s so expensive, then I asked myself Do I really need to pay such a huge budget just for 16GB ram !! Cuz I already have 4TB ssd storage which means I don’t have to worry about storage!! Thank you for this comparison it helps a lot.

I dont think Geekbench is updated to properly test ARM v9 (SME/SVE2), the architecture that M4 adopted.

Thermal camera isn't the best way to test temperature. The coating color will make a difference on irradiated infra red wavelength due the spectral emisivity differential. Thermo couples would be a better testing solution, or, just test the very same colors with different specs. Just my little grain of sand for the record.

@@gosman949 I don’t necessarily agree with this. I have the 8GB version. It is honestly snappy enough.

@@gosman949 The storage can always be used for something. It is nice to be able to go on a trip and just have a ton of movies on it. I have yet to see how it is possible to take advantage of that 16 GB of ram on the iPad. I have a 8 GB model and see no difference. I would say over 50% of the apps that I have owned are no longer around anymore and that means less storage is needed. I don't even download as many apps anymore to this bad experience as a heavy app user losing so many really good apps.

How do you say there’s no big difference?!! SSD speed is 2X faster, also the extra 8gb of ram will easily be felt in long-term with a number of open tabs and apps when you don’t need to keep reloading them!! Apps and web pages are getting heavier and iPad is a device could be used easily for +5 yrs.
@UnDark15 ай бұрын
I’d bet the people buying the flagship version upgrade at shorter intervals than those who buy the lower tier iPads.
@AKA963695 ай бұрын
Upgrading is a different story, I’m talking about how your experience could be affected. In my case I worked with M2- 256gb and returned it, now that I’m using m4 -1tb, the difference is huge in ram related tasks at least for my use cases.

I‘ve got the 1Tb 16Gb M2 iPadPro (4th Generation) .. and not one app I use makes use of the extra 8Gb RAM. Only got it as a second screen didn’t have to be just mirrored.

I have been running on a 2018 Ipad Air I bought while in my MBA program for six years. It has gotten slow enough I want to upgrade, but I don't see any reason to pay the extra $600 for 16gb of ram and memory and slightly faster cpu. This will be just fine for the 4-5 years I use it.
