I am a windows user and AMD/Intel fan. Let me tell you, this is literally an Earth shattering event in computing. The base M4 Mac Mini at $599 has the same performance as a $1199 windows computer equiped with the powerful and expensive Intel i7 chip. Completely insane what Apple did, and yes as a windows user of 20 years I will finally move to Apple for the first time in my life. I hope Apple will keep the price as it is and not raise it once they realize they are completely crushing the competition.

@@insane3953 Not everyone has a 4090 and the GPU market share is like 1% of people with 4090’s. Remember this is a SOC in a mini or Micro PC. You can probably fit 3 of these in a 4090 enclosure itself 😂 Also the M4 ultra which they are supposed working on should in theory reach over 1TB/s bandwidth speed and hopefully they’ve solved the interconnect between two chips or instead have one giant chip.

@@DOGroove Yup, the only thing I dislike about the product however is the still stupidly high upgrade prices and the base being 256GB but still moving up the memory (Only professional workload I do is music production + mixing so I need a good amount of on device storage to load plugins + libraries) however for a desktop PC for 70% of people buying this you can use Online Cloud solutions (Like OneDrive for work or school) and iCloud+ as well as attach a decently fast external 1TB 1gbps SSD for 100 bucks or slightly less

Also, the Mini can be ordered now for delivery within a couple of weeks, while the M4 Studio likely won’t be out until the spring. Would the M4 Studio be better? Sure, but for $2400 it’s hard to beat the Mini, especially if you are partial to Apple products.

The Mac mini M4 Pro with adequate memory and storage is too expensive, considering you don't get a monitor, keyboard or mouse. Over $2K for an unbinned M4 Pro with 2TB storage (need this amount if you're going to actually use this mini for real jobs with real fast R/W time. I like the addition of TB5 but who has these peripherals? For those doing production work and someone else buying it for you, I feel it's a very good option for these users. $2699 for 14/20/16, 48GB memory (64GB for extra $200 of course), 2TB storage and 10Gb ethernet (will be interesting to see speedtests using NAS over 10GB compared to RAID SSD storage over TB5). note: OWC/MacSales has TB5 cables and two TB5 single SSD drives (2TB for $400, 4TB for $600, latter is same cost as adding 2TB extra on top of the 2TB I spec'd). Of course when I look at these crazy prices for the Pro version and the fact my fully blown 2019 iMac only is worth

I think the M4 Pro is the perfect pairing for my maxed out 2019 MBP. I’m a video producer, working with 4K footage from a Sony FX3. The difference between the M1 chip and the intel chip was crazy when I had the M1 MBP at my old job. Now I’m freelance and I’ve had other things to focus on and never wanted to fully ditch having a capable laptop for anything on the go. This will be perfect to have at home, and if I’m ever going somewhere that I know I can hook it up to a display I could theoretically take it too.

I hope you mean M4 Pro if you're looking for under 2K but I'd wait for the benchmarks and the speed tests for your specific workload from this and other channels before making a decision (though I have a strong feeling it'll be slightly better than a M2 Max). *Personally* I think for "light to medium" work like that I don't think you need to even need to be around an older "Max" class of Apple Silicon and the latest and newer "Pro" Class (maybe even Base if you can justify it) would be well and enough for what you do even for the next 5 years, I think if you went for a M4 Pro Mac Mini and if you need the extra storage like 1TB and it already having 24GB of RAM would probably be enough for you at 1.6K since a Studio is 2K (and doesn't have 1TB and to add that makes it 2.2K). Now of course I'd like to think as a video editor you'll also be cool with using external storage so you can bring a new Mac Mini down to 1.4K (and buy a USB 3.2 SSD with 2TB for like 170 or less) and it would be fine for a desktop machine but that's just me and what i think I'd do in your case. I'd wait until there are performance results but I'd give a strong recommendation personally to go for M4 Pro Mac Mini. (ask other people too)

@@FirstLast-nr6gf Yup this is true well I'd probably go for a notch down from your example like an i7 or Ryzen 9 12 Core, 32GB of Ram, 1 or 2TB and even 4070 or 3080 Used (you can even go AMD GPU since video editing performance on those are still strong), if you are willing to look over the isle you can get a much more capable and upgradable system for mostly every workflow at the same cost if you are looking above 1.5K for a Mac. (maybe apart from AI but GPU handles that and also if you don't *HAVE* to use Apple professional software) Thing is, the reason why someone/more people don't do that and go for apple because: 1:They lose Apple's ecosystem with their main computer like handoff and continuity which is a big thing for why people tend to still buy apple hardware 2: Building + Finding PC parts takes a good bit of work and understanding compared to buying a prepackaged Mwhatever Apple Silicon Desktop that almost never comes with any issues in the setup process and out the box. 3: They care a lot about power consumption and form factor, the build you and me said is gonna need a 750/850W PSU and the smallest it can go is probably a Mini ITX case with really really good cooling which is still larger than even a Mac Studio. Those are just some reasons but personally with the upgradability, the better performance per dollar, still having some base level of continuity (I can connect USB C to C to transfer any files and cloud computer is common as well as still being able to receive Snapchat Web notifications) that making the Jump for my workload made sense I only speak this from a guy who owns an iMac and a PC who has love and hate for each side, but I get why people would want to pick one over the other.

Be aware Thunderbolt 5 bidirectional supports up to 80 Gbps so the 120 Gbps means its only 40 Gbps the other way around. Which to be fair is still more than enough.

Thanks for the great vid! I'm upgrading from 2019 imac to an m4 mac mini plus a monitor early next year, can't wait! Here's one consideration to increase your drive capacity for your new mac and not spend nearly as much since Apple generally charges a lot for extra storage: buy the model you want with the smallest drive. For the extra drive storage, get yourself an 'm.2 ssd' plus enclosure: you will be able to get a LOT more space for less money, and read/write speeds should still be very fast. Also, be sure to get as much RAM as you need since this is not upgradable once you buy.

Well...actually it’s not that fast. Only 32Gbps can be used for data (the rest is reserved for video), so if you put a fast SSD in a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure, the SSD can only go half as fast as if it was inside the computer. Thunderbolt 5 will let external SSDs go as fast as they are built to be. Also, if using a Thunderbolt 4 hub, 40Gbps runs out fast if divided among hub devices. Thunderbolt 5 should let more devices run at their full speed off a hub.

I have a 15" MacBook Air M3. Absolutely amazing for surfing the internet. If I was remote or had a dedicated desktop area, I'd definitely shoot for this. I had a M2 Pro Mac mini. It was amazing!

While getting rid of the USB A ports seems like a great idea, they're still necessary for a lot of us. I'm sure several specific Mac Mini M4 ports will be out on the market sometime soon but not having them available people like myself will wait several months before trading in or purchasing the new M4 Mini. With that being said, I would definitely go with M4 Pro...wouldn't need an upgrade for several years. That would make the jump in cost from the basic M4 worth it. I still have the M1 Mini and it's still chugging along, but it's almost 5 years old now.

Don't waste your money on Apple garbage. Buy a PC with 32-64GB of RAM, 2-4TB SSD and Nvidia Graphics card and use DaVinci Resolve.

I am going with the Mini Pro at $1399 and only have $200 left for one upgrade - Upgrade Chip OR Upgrade SSD - I currently have 512 SSD in my 2018 Mini with i7 and 32GM RAM. Chip. Historically for the M series, the 2 TB SSD is where you see the leap in performance, so if you are not considering the 2 TB, then upgrade the chip

You also won’t be able to upgrade the OS. In order to upgrade the OS on a 256 GB model you need 100GB of free space, 50GB for the DL and 50 for the install.

@@user-91291 Core ultra 125h has similar performance. Barebone Asus NUC with that CPU is about $500. 32 GB of ram is $50 and 1TB SSD is $60-70. You can get 2TB WD black SSD for $120. The NUC has 2 ssd slots. You’ll be able to upgrade easily. Ram and ssd get cheaper every year.

Depends on what your looking for. what rez and hz are you spefically looking for? you can buy a cheap ass 1080p 240hz monitor. but if you get a OLED there way more beautiful but way more expensive

You didn't. Mac Studio with M2 Max is a really powerful machine and it comes with minimum of 32 GB of RAM, 512 GB storage, better cooling and multitasking and ideal for video editing as well. you won't need to upgrade for a long time.

I think the M1 Max has dual video encoders so if you edit video, it might be faster on an M1 Max
