I go over the basics of brazing a rear cage together in this video, featuring the RC4WD C2X. This is definitely for beginners, but should get you started in the fun that is brazing!
Check your local welding supply, or hardware store (or Amazon) for all your brazing tools I mention in this video.

I’ve tried brazing but I suck at it. I’m not giving up on it because I love the feeling of taking materials and making something cool and/or useful out of them. I’ve done it on my Chevy Apache project truck quite a bit and I want to bring it to 10th scale for myself as well. I have access to a welder to make all of the stuff I want to, but it’s a half hour away and I’d rather be in my shop where I’m most comfortable and can learn at my own pace. This video will definitely help me make some cool stuff for my rigs, so thanks a ton!

I use a micro torch. It's great for getting the heat into tight places and keeping it away from places you don't want it. Also a chainsaw sharpening stone for use in a dremel is great for shaping the ends of the tubes for a no gap fit. In the end your joints will be stronger and look better than ones with large gaps filled in with silver solder which itself is expensive especially when you have to use twice as much to fill gaps in your joints.

OMG Matt!!! You made my week!!! 😁😁😁 I've already got everything you mentioned except the Mapp Gas and Nozzle, Solder and Flux and a Bench Vise! Oh, and Brake Line. NONE of which sounds prohibitively expensive!! 😁😎 (I apologize up front. This will be LONG! There are things I feel like I need to say to you) 😃 Also as a Retired Auto Mechanic, and Custom Engine Builder, I've got OCD level pipe (Fuel and Brake Line) bending and trimming skills and am a pretty decent Welder.... 😉 I've seen other how to Tiny Truck Welding Videos, and was disheartened by the COST of the equipment to get the results they were getting. 😞 Could you please provide me with links or at least part descriptions for the MAPP apparatus, Silver Solder and Flux you use?? 😁 I've wanted to do custom Cage Work since I discovered the Tiny Truck end of the RC Hobby - from YOU, Chris @ GCM and Aaron at RCSparks in 2014!! 😎👍👍🇨🇦 That's true. I was disgusted with how RC Vehicles I kept seeing looked like Moon Buggies with tires sticking out of the Fenders by what looks like 5 SCALE FEET!!! 😖😞😡 I was doing a search for Model Railroading Videos, and "accidentally" stumbled upon your, Aaron's, Chris's and later, Josh's Channels. You helped me discover after a 9 year hiatus from the Hobby, that SCALE Modeling, my passion, had a big place in the RC Hobby!!! I thank you Sir, sincerely. 😉😎👍👍 Again I'm TERRIBLY sorry that in 2015, when we lost EVERYTHING, that in desperation, I reached out to the RC Community to try to get help rebuilding my collection and to start my new found Love, Scale Trucking!! I'm not a beggar, and contrary to popular belief, NOT a Scammer. Still don't remember who started that. I'm pretty sure that your Friend Richard, will never talk to me again... I've made quite a few enemies in my improper means of trying to get help. THANK YOU Matt, if you got to the end of this book!! 😉 PLEASE Stay SAFE! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

good video. pretty good basic brazing info. brazing rods from home depot or lowes or whatever will be cheaper than that silver solder yer using. I use a ts8000 torch but the flame is a little big, it works fine for small stuff you just gotta be a little more careful. for more precise heat placement a jewelers torch works best. I actually like the way a brass brazed joint looks on steel. it's a nice contrast, and, when you get to where you can run that solder in smooth it makes a very eye pleasing joint. tig welding these little projects is where it's at methinks. a lot more expensive to get set up, but, super precise heat and bond. the truck is lookin great. I enjoyed this video very much have a badass day 🤘🏻

To figure out what your bends need to be use plumbing solder it has a large diameter & it bends easily & you can reuse it over & over for long tubes the shorter pieces not so much. This is especially helpful for interior cages. If you want to do a complete mockup you can use C A (super glue) to glue it together to see if you like it or not. I have a small oxygen propane torch I bought @ Lowes & I used the Lincoln Electric brazing rods. I am going to try the borax & brass wire technique like someone else mentioned in the comments next.

You could kinda make a mook up with plastic straws and then cut your metal pieces and build it off the truck. Just so you don't melt anything because that's what would happen to me, lol. Love the idea
