The supplied 14-tooth pinion in the kit also made my SCX10-III drivetrain whine. Using the 14-t holes in the motor mount plate gave me little gear lash (play between pinion and spur gears). Replacing this pinion with an aftermarket same tooth count pinion lead to a much quieter operating vehicle.

It would make sense for axial to sell the straight axle parts considering this is the first scx10 type with portals and it can’t cost that much to make, I’m kind of surprised it wasn’t given as an option already considering dig and the 2 speed are options in this kit version. Its crazy what it cost you to make that trx4 straight axles. They need to have tiers of scx10 3’s to compete at the different levels like Traxxas, with a builders kit that’s has the pieces to do the portals or straight axles and 2 speed and dig. And then a couple other levels to round it out.

I made a “tool” to drain tires that are vented on the tires. I took a 2-1/2” long machine screw and a small fender washer and put that on the back of the wheel, then a nut or wing nut on the front to hold the tire and wheel on there. Then I tighten the end of the screw into my drill and hold the trigger until as much of the water that I can get out has flung out. I’ve only used it once but it works pretty well.

straight axle conversion? is it because the truck is top heavy or you want to keep slamming that low pumpkin into rocks or does the new portals not look scale or like myself you just can't leave it stock, it can't be that the portals are less capable, just trying to understand why you would go to straight axles. Now that being said I too thought portals were a bit silly until I drove a redcat gen 8 now I want portals on everything! My scx10III is still in the box waiting to be built and I can't wait to see those portals work or do I just order some straights and chuck the portals. Keep up the great work and when in doubt use loctite.
@Lentsnh174 жыл бұрын
RC Mike Klein Biggest and main reason why some of us are waiting out for the straight axle SCX10.3 to come out is because stock JLUs don’t have portals in stock form. Mopar does offer a portal kit, but you won’t see that on a Jeep at a normal dealership lot. Second reason (might be more personal opinion), less gears/parts moving. Keeps it simple.

I really like the tires, but I favor a little more bling if I'm peeling off for accessory wheels. After I get mine I'll decide on gearing. The first chore for me is defeating the DIG. It's the stupidest, most unneeded, problematic Gd gimmick Axial put into the RTR Capra IMHO. DIGs should be left to the 'Kit' buyer to install(as they presently are) or to voluntarily install in the 'RTR' versions.
@scalebuildersguild4 жыл бұрын
Not a chore at all. Axial includes a spacer to eliminate both dig & 2 speed.
@douglaselliott82984 жыл бұрын
@@scalebuildersguild I DO NOT BUY 'KITS' for reasons of lack of space for a hobby workbench and its common appurtenances. I am a RTR buyer and disassembling a RTR and its transmission on my 200sq-ft bedroom floor is as UNTENABLE as a "kit" build. I figure pulling the micro servo plug for the DIG and gluing the activation rod stationary would be a much easier and more practical fix for my situation if Axial insists on including the DIG feature in a RTR SCX10III as they did in my RTR Capra. I presume the 2-speed could be remedied the same way as the aforementioned DIG if desired.
