8mm Film Scanning and Sprocket Alignment using a RetroScan Universal and DaVinci Resolve 15

With all film scanning, regardless of machine, there is some movement during the scanning process. This video shows how to align film using the 'Tracking' function in DaVinci Resolve.

Thank you! This helps stabilize the overall frame. This is why, shaky handheld cameras should be avoided, unless necessary for the scene of project, but otherwise, we will go into the second phase of stabilizing the footage itself : D

Hello David. You mentioned you were not sure about how regular 8mm footage was originally shot. All regular 8mm footage actually came to you as 25 feet of 16mm film that had regular 8mm sprocket holes on the left and right side of the film. When you shoot the film you expose 25 feet of film and then you have to physically turn the film reel over and then shoot the other side of the film. When you sent the reel in to be developed they would then split the film down the middle and splice the two 25 foot parts together and then you would end up with 50 feet. Also, you should always clean your film before transfer it will make a real difference in how good the transfer will look.
