@@ups5864 It is fine for a high schooler to read. If I remember correctly this mom was complaining more about another book a student used for a report. Another thing is in High School it's fine to be reading such books. I even did a report on a book that detailed sexual abuse to a minor. Very explicit stuff within the pages I just can't remember the book. Anyway that's besides the point. The real point is what the mother talked about was a non issue.

But a book graphicly describing as a tutorial on oral and anal sex or any sexual conduct is beyond repulsive. You can teach sex education without being pornographically descriptive. The qualifications are actually pretty steep. At least a 4 year degree, plus certification which includes months of unpaid student teaching. Even then, the pay is lousy. It's a hard job to get and an even harder one to do.

The time for debate is over. Students were exposed to explicit material. Removal of those responsible is a must. If this is incident is not acknowledged as absolutely wrong charges need to be filed. But absolutely, under no circumstances, should a parent leave their child in that environment if this is not dealt with. Sadly, it will have to be at the parents inconvenience that this gets corrected if this school board does not take definitive action.

In the workplace they would not allow a book such as that to be passed around for anyone to see including the public. They would be fired IMMEDIATELY. Because it is sexual harassment. They will not even let allowed to read them at a school board meetings. If any good lawyer or passionate lawyer that deals with sexual harassment could file a class action lawsuit against the schools. In the workplace a remark or a book is found a sensitive to any employee they could be fired from sexual harassment. The comment or book may not directly concern you but if even you overhear a sexual comment made you have bases for a lawsuit. For all the parents across the country that are facing the sexual harassment of their children should be sued and they could be sued if you find the right lawyer. THOSE BOOKS TO BE IN THAT LIBRARY OR ANYWHERE AROUND A CHILD IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT. EVEN IF IT IS NOT SAID TO YOU THE OVER HURT BECAUSE IT MAKES THE WORKPLACE UNCOMFORTABLE AND IT'S AGAINST THE RULES. I think it is past time to start getting the department of justice involved in these cases, NOT let the school board investigate. According to federal law it is illegal to distribute "obscene" materials to anyone under the age of 16. In my opinion that is EXACTLY what these teachers/board members are doing. End of story. Federal charges all around. I knew a guy that got a ticket for urinating publicly in New York. He went to court and told the judge "I didn't know it was against the law". The judge told him "ignorance of the law does not excuse you from the law". That has really stuck with me my whole life (I heard that story over 30 years ago). I have taught my kids that lesson and now these people need to learn that lesson. Perhaps part of the training for becoming a teacher and school board member should include legal training for what is and is not allowed.
