I could not help laughing at the expression "helping of seppuku." I love this channel. It is very accessible to me as someone with no real understanding of Japanese and yet it retains a distinct Japanese flavour. It goes without saying that I am always impressed with how smoothly Seki Sensei moves. I have started online lessons but I am tempted... Keep the videos coming Shogo!

Juntō (Kaishaku in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu) is, in a way, an odd kata in the middle of the Omori Ryu set. Whereas in every other kata in this and other sets of iai-gata, one needs to exhibit seme, it is unnecessary in this kata because there is no teki (enemy). For me, it made for an interesting experience in doing the Omoir Ryu set to 'turn off' seme only while doing this kata.

Practicing this Kata was necessary because any samurai could be chosen as the “Kaishaku” for someone. Especially if the samurai committing Seppuku was close to you.

What a coincidence . Me and my sensei was talking about the orgigin of ukenagashi in znkr renmei iai last pratice lesson, and hade some spekulation that we seen ryūtō on some seminar where they did pratice musô shinden.
