THIS is the episode I've been looking for! It establishes explicit links between activities in the Hills and back at the cabin, and sets up several continuing elements of the situation -- e.g., Pearl's manhunting, Ellie May's unpolished wildness, Granny's misunderstanding of the Cement Pond, the prototypical "Long Talk", etc.

@Allen Loser Of course she is. The Broadcast Standards & Practices board would collectively have a grand mal seizure if there was even a hint that she wasn't. When this show aired, the prudes were riding high in the public consciousness, and certainly at the networks. Any hint of sexuality was squashed. It's why Mary Anne's tight shortie-shorts had to cover her naval, why the pubescent girls of the Mickey Mouse club had to have heavy towels wrapped around their bodies under their sweaters (Doreen was an early bloomer, or so I've heard), and married couples were depicted sleeping in separate beds. It's astonishing they even acknowledged that bras were really a thing, much less allowed the 'whole heap of rocks' joke.
@xaenon5 жыл бұрын
@Allen Loser Indeed so. But then, fantasy was a big part of television at the time. Mr. Ed. The Addams Family. The Munsters. Hogan's Heroes. F Troop. Gilligan's Island. My Favorite Martian. I Dream of Jeannie. Bewitched. Get Smart. Even the cop shows, even the ones supposedly based on 'true events' were unrealistic.
@xaenon5 жыл бұрын
@Allen Loser It's interesting you mention that. There were a lot of people back then who were angry at that show. Why? They believed it 'misrepresented' the actual war. My uncle one of them. He was absolutely livid because he thought I believed the war was as it was depicted on a sitcom. I sort of sympathize with him; he'd seen action in Europe during the war. But no matter how many times I tried to explain that NOBODY believed the war was like that, he never could get that through his head.

This is some of the best comedy ever written for TV. Almost EVERY SINGLE LINE is knee slapping hilarious. Great writers. Of course they had a subject that is hilarious on its face: a family of Appalachian(or was is the Ozarks?) hillbillies transplanted and living in the ultra-sophisticated - and ritzy - society of Beverly Hills, Calif.. How outrageous to begin with! I think Jethro at one point made reference to their home town(or community) of "Bugtussle"(or Bug Tussle) and that is was in Tennessee. Does anyone really know from what state they were supposed to be?
@natoh.81405 жыл бұрын
Several times later in the season Granny mentions she is homesick for Tennessee. I wasn't much different than the Clampetts when I went to college. I grew up in a small West Texas ranching town that was so country I even rode my horse to school a few times.

Probably not. But such an oversight is called, "poetic liscence" in show biz talk. People were freer conduct things back then. If you remember from the previous episode (#1-"The Ckampetz Strike Oil," Pearl GAVE (offered) them the truck to manage 6 day "hard driving" mentioned twice in the series, one titled, "home for Christmas," where they take a "Bus" (aka-airplane TWA, I THINK) to somewhere in the hills and Mr. Brewster picked them up.

Can someone explain to me how Jed is Jethro‘s uncle. When Jed is Jethro‘s mother’s cousin?
@howardkerr81745 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Crowell When I was growing up, I had several aunts and uncles. I didn't count them, but it would turn out that my father had 3 brothers and 2 sisters while my mother had 6 brothers and 2 sisters...for a total of 13 aunts and uncles. But we also had Aunt Teresa, at least that is what my mother called her, and I met a woman called Aunt Anne. I actually had no idea as a child who Aunt Teresa and Aunt Anne were related to, and it wasn't until I was an adult that I realized Aunt Teresa and Aunt Anne were sisters of my mother's parents. No one called them great aunt....or grand aunt(?), and Teresa did not really seem to resemble her sister (my grandmother) although I did remember Anne resembled her brother (my grandfather). Families, especially back when generations were more likely to get together every now and then, often "mixed up" the correct terms for relatives. I have a cousin that is the daughter of my father's half sister. But to further muddy the waters, she has her own children and grandchildren.
@shirleyharrison25805 жыл бұрын
@@howardkerr8174 I enjoyed your story..lol ..I can relate to it, as we (my family) was about the same. But even now, I have great nieces & nephews, & THEY have children & grandchildren, but I'm still just Aunt to all of them, they are just niece/ nephew to me. Not all the great- great..ect..ect.. Probably confusing I know..but we have a great, wonderful ,loving family.
