The nose of the plane touched the E Ring. I remember passing the scene @ 3:30 am in Oct. '01 looking at the damage and the debris removal.

The original flag is draped on the back wall of the lower level of US Smithsonian Museum. It's still soot-covered. Look back before you exit the lower level, and you can see it.
