This is a bit late, but plants are an easy way to make a home feel more inviting. Even fake plants work! My building has a ton of spiders so I can't have real plants indoors. Also less is better (except with plants) when it comes to decor.

Fake plants are definitely more expensive than I would like too. I've seen a lot at thrift stores though if you want to start looking there. Good for your wallet and the environment :)
