Dear Mr. Gore, I've been watching your series of lectures for about a little over a year now and though I'm no longer in school or college, at 50 yrs old, born again Christian 11yrs, I absolutely love our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! So still a student of the Word of God, disciple, reformed in theology, Free Presbyterian and have learned so much and your lectures are a treasure to more knowledge and understanding of church history and more... A blessing indeed from the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you so much for all your hard work for the Glory of God and furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ! May God richly bless you and your family! In Jesus precious name.

In his relationship with Guthrum, Alfred truly exemplifies Romans 8:37, " Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Fantastic video.

+Adrian Bury If you like learning about Alfred the Great, there was an epic poem written about him called "The Ballad of The White Horse", by GK Chesterton. It takes history and legend, and weaves them together to form a beautiful tapestry of Alfred's finest hour as king. Its not very long and I highly recommend it.

But one thing that I am sure of is that God gave you to me, This lecture gives me hope that one day like Alfred the Great after all my failures one day I'll find a great success. So king Alfred’s life in the 9th century (being chased by the Vikings) reflects the life of David under the persecution of Saul in the 9th book, running from city to city, giving himself to prayer and singing psalms. And here is what the 9th Epistle 2Thessalonians says concerning those who persecute Christians: 2 Thessalonians 1:3-10 (KJV) 3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; 4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 [Which is] a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6 Seeing [it is] a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed ) in that day.

When people called Sir Winston Churchill, The Greatest Briton", he replied, 'no, there is another far greater, 'King Alfred the Great'. We do well if we remember and emulate men with the qualities of King Alfred.

@@karencarter8292 yes, have you? I was raised quite near Chartwell so am very familiar with his true story. I see him as a man of his time, not to be judged by today's mostly immoral standards.
@karencarter82927 ай бұрын
@@gordonfrickers5592 With due regard, Mr. Frickers, yes I have researched his life, and it is not what the mainstream wants to project. By the mid-1930's, he was no longer in control of his personal and political life. He was beholden to interests that wanted another massive, devastating war on the European soil. As a young man, he was given posts because of his family's connections to royalty. His alcoholism affected his job and cost the British Navy dearly. 'Just a few facts.

At 6:20....that s just completely innacurate. Hungary was never part of the Empire. And their alliance with Austria took place 6 decades after Austerlitz. They nothing to do with each other, although we can admit Austria was the most important state within the Empire before it fell.
