9-BALL - The Sands Regency Open was one of the most popular professional events back in the 90’s and it drew all of the top players of the game. The 16th running of this bi-annual event, back in December of 1992 was a perfect example of this. “The Rifleman” BUDDY HALL faced “The Miz” STEVE MIZERAK in semi-final action, to determine who would move on to battle with Earl Strickland in the finals. Both Hall, 47, and Mizerak,48, were crowd favorites and it shows in this match.
Bill Incardona and Grady Mathews were in the booth for this one.

@@jimvalim1567 Matchroom is doing a good job but I like the commentary of the old pros the most. Don’t even get me started on how BAD the Predator Commentary has been! They need to go a new route with a lot of things. To spend that much $$ on their own tables and to have them play so badly says a lot in my book. Testing is the easiest part of R & D! First it was the tables which still don’t play rite. Now it’s the new racks that are the issue? I don’t think they test their products with players. They get them to market to make that mighty dollar and that is gonna hurt them in the long run in my opinion. I guess they need me on the team to clear the products before launch…….lol

It seems like more people attended the older, treasured matches than they do nowadays. All eyes fixated on the players; no cell phones to look at back then. Miz and Buddy were as smooth as Tennessee whiskey.

The table is so raggety at 31:51 the 7 ball moves about 1/5th rotation, by itself, into the big hole they put the 1 ball in when racking! Love the commentary, and both players.

When people used to go after buddy for money they lose sometimes you wonder if Buddy lost these matches on purpose in tournaments so to give people false sense of security like they have a chance to beat him then with money on the line in the back room he would slaughter them. He is the best 9 ball player ever.

Can we assume Incardona is paid "by the word " ? ....Grady adds a meaningful comment , (or some humor ,) while the other commentator says certain words some 6 or 8 times a rack . However : we can forever thank Mr Incardona for suggesting the addition of commentary to Accu-Stats videos !

This is a prime example of how enormously important the break is Nine ball. Steve's break was working And Buddy's was not. Although a Buddy played a better game statistically He lost to steve because he had an ineffective break. Even though steve made more mistakes throughout the majority of the match his ability to produce a good break was the difference in the match. It is the reason he not only won but he won Handily.

Someone messed up with the magnets below the table. I hope you don’t believe Pool players can hit two spherical objects into each other with a stick and actually control where they go? Pool balls have a metal core and there are tons of shielded magnets under the table. Usually they’re controlled by the commentators. It’s an art form and they need to know the player and his ways pretty well for everything to look smooth but sometimes odd things happen. When they take a shot, the controller will unshield magnets along the path they want the ball to travel and they will cascade perfectly to drag the ball along to its predetermined destination. The best commentator/controllers slow the ball down gradually and make it seem so real and natural. It’s amazing stuff. Grady and Billy are really good controllers and can make the balls move very close to the apparent speed of the shot the players make

Look how the audience clapped after he totally crapped the 6-ball in... like that was exactly how he played it. 🤨 I worked a pro-tour stop in 1993 in Dallas. One of the matches I had to score was Mizerak and a guy named Fox. Back then they would account for every ball and which pocket it dropped into. I was positioned just like this camera angle. There were several times that I couldn't see the balls because Mizerak was so damn wide. Once I had to just guess nearly an entire rack because of the way the balls were laid out, Mizerak barely had to move after the break.

As far as racking the balls, I've found that if I take the head ball out of the rack, like racking 14:1, and center the spot in the apex of the rack, and then put the one ball in the rack, they usually stay froze. As long as the balls are the same size, that is.
