@physicsguybrian

Agreed! Final score says it all. Difference of 2. Fedor's "non-compliant break" is the only reason Shane won this match. They were playing at least equally well IMO and Fedor's cue ball control and shot making skills are phenomenal. This is not a Shane vs Fedor debate. I really like both players. My argument is about the stupid break rule. It biases the outcome because it favors the hardest breaker BUT a rule should be unbiased or it is a terrible rule!!!!

I think if it's break from the box, even with template, then the 3 point rule shouldn't be applied, but the break speed can be at the refs discretion to prevent soft breaking. However, it's it's break from anywhere, then 3 the point rule is fine. Breaking from the box requires a cut break, and with a slightly over cut on the one, the balls fonts spread as well

Agreed! And it favors the power breakers like shane. The rule is stupid and I am willing to bet there was zero legitimate math/stats/physics analysis used to support the rule and/or determine the details of the rule. Why 3? What technical basis arrived at that gem of stupidness? Fedor hit a VERY hard break, made two balls, STILL non-compliant?!?!? WT actual F? The rule needs to go!!! I am a physicist and pool practitioner. The rule is nonsense, was clearly a "best guess" arbitrary attempt at a rule and it is biasing outcomes that favor hard breakers. @mattevans1643 2 жыл бұрын
You learn more by watching other players than by playing. The only practice you can really do is making the balls. But everything else is all mind games. Creativity will always overcome the book answers. Learning how speed affects the movement of the cue ball is very important, way more important than how it affects the object ball. I had a pocket ball with the 8-ball sitting about 2 feet under it. We have timeouts in our league so I asked my captain what he wanted me to do. And he said top right so it would set up for a long shot but easily makable 8. I said okay. I put low left and ripped it, and it settled just below the 8 for the easiest shot ever. And he asked how i did that. And i told him physics. If you hit full enough on the object ball most of the momentum gets taken away from the cue ball. Then when it contacts the rail it will do what's it's supposed to if the speed is appropriate. Would i ever do that shot again, probably not, but it was a badass shot. I figured worst case scenario with the speed i hit, it would end up going three rail with an easy shot, but instead went 1 rail right behind the 8.

It hit the point, because it wasn't on the rail. He hit it with a slight cut which drove the 4 to the point. Happens quite often on that type of shot. It's one reason why i hate going across the table for rail shots, and always try to set up for the shot that doesn't require that. It's one of my many weaknesses.

During college, especially in my group of peers, Winning was second to cool. Cool was thunderous breaks, massive English on the ball, never playing a Safety, have to bank the 8 (in 8-ball). and I would much rather play well and lose than play poorly and win. I wanted good contests. Among friends, if we reached the 8-ball and the opponent was way behind, we would suddenly declare that the 8-ball (for this game) must be banked, caromed, kicked or jumped to give him/her the chance to catch up. Did anyone else play this way with their friends? .

(Sorry, new to Medical Ca____) The reason I brought up the above was that I think audiences like crushing, loud breaks, the chances of the 9 (in 9-ball) going in on the break, the drama of the break. Not to mention, powerful breaking is fun and part of the appeal of the sport. (In the Color of Money, Vincent's super loud break is what drew Newman's character over to him.) And I think due to social media, KZbin in particular, many watch the pros and seek to emulate them. If the pros aren't breaking very forcefully, the masses might follow. But now less people want to play pool. (It's a theory.) Did this even make even a little sense? ........

I looked at Josh and he said real quickly oh yeah she can push out. You would think professional players would know the rules more than a working man, but I didn’t contest it because I didn’t want to go all the way downstairs to tournament desk. Needless to say I have no respect for either of them. Ended up losing 9-6, not to say I would have won but I could have made it closer at least.

A ref is there to ensure the rules are followed...pros are there to play and better be sure they know all the rules. Now theres no really unified rules in pool but at the end of the day if the ref told him of a foul before it happened is still bad juju plain and simple. American football refs dont rush the field to tell someone they're lined up offsides etc...

Announcers even called it, the ref is not to inform the player of an oncoming foul. Rules not personal ethics.

What’s the point of the time clock if you can let it run out and still shoot
@AccuStats

As long as the player is "addressing" the cue ball, it is not a foul when the timer goes to 00. No one has taken advantage of the obvious. If the player gets off the shot or starts looking around, then it's a foul.

We always considered the rule that you prefer, but too often, we see a player rushing to a shot and shooting it when not ready. No player has taken advantage of staying down on the shot too long, so since it wasn't abused, we let the player relax and execute the shot with his maximum skill. BTW, you're not alone. 🙂

Why can't Americans stick to the American traditional billiard ball colors we all here in the country have been using. 1 = yellow. 2 = blue. 3 = red. 4=purple. 5 = orange. 6 = green. 7 = maroon. 8 = black. Then 9 thru 15 group, having the stripe color matching 1 to 7, adding by adding 8. (7 low group plus 8 is 15 high)

@AccuStats
@AccuStats 2 жыл бұрын
It is not a foul, but the breaker does have a "Non-Compliant" break. There is a 3-point rule on the break. You get a point for each ball pocketed and a point for each ball that passes the head string. Score less than 3 and it's a non-compliant break. The opponent has the option of shooting or giving it back to the breaker.

FWIU you have to get 3 points. 1 for a ball past the head string. 1 for a pocketed ball. In this example: 2 balls past + ball pocketed = 3 pts
