Nice descriptions. Good job. Beautiful trees that were well chosen from a large list of beautiful trees!

I would love to see a webinar on columnar trees for smaller lots. Love Bates’ webinars.

Wow, I am so glad I found your channel. I love getting nerdy about trees and I swear you hit so many on my favorites of my wish list. My small lot is going to be an arboretum at this rate. What do you do when you want to try ALL the trees? Well not all anymore. Space is precious, they have to be special. Have you grown a betula jacquemontii?

You're right about precious space! Here in the South, it's near impossible to grow white birch. River Birch is really the only species that can take the heat down here.

Surprised you mentioned the japanese snowbell, but not the American version - Styrax americanus or Styrax grandifolia. Or are they more shrub than tree? Lately, I've been on a native kick and am slowly removing non-native plants from the yard in an effort to fix some of the ecosystem damages we've done over the decades. So, the more talk of natives, the better - especially when it comes to less well-known trees and shrubs. We have so many of them, yet everyone seems to have a fetish for the foreign.

@dianetemple4243 0 seconds ago I have a Pink Chimes Japanese Snowbell tree that started out as a whip. They do not grow extremely quickly (mine is now just three feet tall after four years) in my zone 7A area but the blooms are breathtaking to behold!

I live in zone 3 none of this relevant to me. We under-appreciate the understory trees!

More than half of your selected species are not native... Styrax japonicus from Japan, little leaf linden from europe, heptacodium, golden rain, chinese pistache, from china...

That is correct, Austin presents a few native selections in his overall presentation. That's why we called it "Underused Trees" and not "Underused Native Trees"

@@batesnursery he indicated at the end of the video that most of the trees featured in the video were native.
